A Delaware state trooper has been suspended for allegedly beating a 15-year-old boy to death after the teenager left his home.
The teenager, named Jayden, suffered an orbital fracture around his eye – which required surgery – as well as a concussion and cuts and bruises after his parents said the teenager’s innocent prank had been blown out of proportion.
“There are bruises all over his body, on his shoulders. There’s a bruise on his chest, there’s a bruise on the back of his neck,” the family’s attorney, Samuel Davis, told WPVI.
The teenager’s face was swollen with bruises on his right eye and cheek, pictures provided to the outlet showed.
Jayden and three friends were playing ditch ding-dong — ringing people’s doorbells and escaping — in Wilmington on Monday when they pushed a state trooper’s bell, according to the family.
The 15-year-old, identified by his family as Jayden, will need surgery on his broken orbital bone.
The state trooper and his partner found the teenager and his friends 45 minutes after ringing his doorbell, according to WPVI.
About 45 minutes later, the soldier and his partner located the child and aggressively arrested the group of men.
“[Jayden] was roughed up on the ground in handcuffs, and he was punched blind haymaker by a state trooper while he shined a flashlight into his eyes,” Davis said.
The boys were handcuffed and arrested but none of them were charged with a crime.
The trooper was wearing their department-issued body camera at the time and Delaware State Police are reviewing the footage, DSP told WPVI in a statement.
In addition to the broken bones and concussion, Jayden’s family attorney said he had bruises and cuts all over his body.
The Delaware trooper has been suspended pending a department investigation.
The officer accused of the attack, who has not been identified, has been suspended while officers investigate the incident.
Military partners are also being investigated for their actions, or lack thereof, during this situation.
