Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., issued a scathing rebuke to the media following its “disgusting display” of reporting on an explosion at a hospital in Gaza this week.
Gaza’s Health Ministry initially reported that an Israeli air strike was responsible for an explosion at Gaza’s al-Ahli Baptist Hospital that it said killed hundreds of people on Tuesday.
However, on Wednesday, the Israeli government ruled that the explosion was caused by a rocket attack from Islamic Jihad.
Moskowitz, along with Rep. Mike Lawler, RN.Y., appeared on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Report” Thursday where Democrats attacked much of the mainstream media that initially reported the Hamas-backed health ministry claims as fact.
“This is what I know, what I know, we see a disgusting display of anti-Israel, anti-Zionism, and anti-Semitism from the international media around the world. They immediately took Hamas at its word for it, Hamas, a terrorist organization, said something and ran with it. It caused riots all over the world. It caused the president’s meeting to be cancelled, but when Israel said it wasn’t true, they had to show satellite images, they had to show the trajectory of the bombs, they had to explain the size of the crater, they had to show everything. audio intelligence, but Hamas, their words are taken seriously,” Moskowitz said.

He continued, “So, look, this shows how dangerous it is to listen to terrorist organizations when they put numbers, when they put out facts and figures and they put out statements and it’s a lesson to the media and elected officials that this is an active war zone and we have to be careful before taking things and arming them because look what it’s causing in the Arab World.”

Various mainstream media outlets such as The New York Times and CNN ran with original reports from the Hamas-backed ministry.
When Lawler followed up by condemning the mainstream media, Mitchell demurred, defending his network.

“Let me just say it,” Mitchell said of Lawler’s argument. “Members of Congress, not the NBC media. Not most American media. You are talking about…you are talking about the media in the Arab world.”
Lawler kept his stance.
“CNN does it too and I’ll tell you, it’s wrong. It is wrong. We have to – when you’re in a war, you better make sure you have your facts. We can’t let the Baghdad Bobs run around spreading these lies. Especially members of Congress. So, it is important – it is important. The important fact here and we need to make sure people understand, Israel did not attack the hospital. It was a terrorist organization that did that,” Lawler said.
