Democrat says charges against ‘very troubled’ Hunter Biden are ‘legally justified’

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy defended the latest charges against Hunter Biden on Sunday, calling them “legally justified” while slamming the firstborn as “very problematic.”

Murphy (D-Ct.) blasted the scandal-plagued eldest son’s behavior, while blasting Republicans for using him as a bully against President Biden.

“I think these are very troubled individuals who have done things that deserve to be prosecuted,” Murphy told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

“The American people understand that Hunter Biden will not be on the ballot next fall – that Joe Biden will be on the ballot.”

Hunter Biden was charged with nine new charges last week – three felonies and six misdemeanors – for alleged tax violations.

The first son previously pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges for allegedly failing to pay his income tax on purpose and three charges for allegedly illegally possessing a firearm while dealing in illegal drugs.

Chris Murphy slams Hunter Biden’s behavior, but praises his father.

Last week’s charges are similar to several allegations made by an IRS whistleblower who alleged that more charges were not made against the first son.

The whistleblower claims that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss sought tax charges against the first son from prosecutors in California and Washington, DC, but was denied.

They widely claim that the Justice Department showed favoritism to Hunter Biden. Weiss was promoted to special counsel in August.

While disparaging Hunter’s behavior, Murphy praised President Biden as “a president who has led an unprecedented economic recovery.”

Murphy also said that he believed it was inappropriate for family members of politicians to profit from their family names.

“Frankly when I look at the Trump family, it seems they have made an industry out of profiting from the presidency of Donald Trump,” he said.

The senator noted how President Donald Trump’s former son-in-law Jared Kushner’s firm secured a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia after he left the White House.

“Hunter Biden will be held accountable in court for any violations of the law he commits,” Murphy added when pressed about the first son’s business dealings.

House lawmakers have opened an impeachment inquiry into the president, revolving around allegations of influence peddling from members of his family, particularly Hunter Biden.

The investigation has not been officially authorized, but Republicans have signaled they intend to hold a formal vote to make it official.

His lawyers offered him to testify publicly, but the GOP slapped him.

The White House has dismissed the investigation of the president as a partisan effort.

“They want to undo what happened in 2020 and they’re using their power to launch this baseless political attack on the president,” White House spokesman Ian Sams told MSNBC Sunday.
