During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Denis Villeneuve opens up about his Dune trilogy. The filmmaker shared that he has dreams of continuing to explore the world of fiction with a third film adaptation of the book by Frank Herbert.
He said, “If I manage to make a trilogy, that would be a dream. Dune Messiah was written as a reaction to the fact that people think of Paul Atreides as a hero, which he is not [Herbert] want to do my adaptation [of Dune] closer to his idea that it was actually a warning.”
Villeneuve explained to his interviewer that he would stop after the third ‘Dune’ film because “the book became more … esoteric.” The filmmaker also hinted that his dream of making a third installment was more than just an idea. He added, “There are words on paper.”

Villeneuve revealed the trailer for “Dune: Part Two” at CinemaCon earlier this year and said his team worked to make the film unique. He stated, “Part One is more of a contemplative film. Part Two is an action-packed epic war film. It’s much more compact.”
Villeneuve said they made the film special by adding “new locations” and building “new sets.” He also explained that they shot the sequel in 100% IMAX, unlike the first film, which only had 40% shot in IMAX.
‘Dune: Part Two’ Has Been Delayed
MEGA
follow Hollywood Reporter, the second installment of “Dune” was scheduled to premiere on November 3 this year but has now been delayed. The film will now hit theaters on March 15, 2024. The delay is due to the ongoing strike by the actors’ and screenwriters’ unions, which will affect promotions.
“Dune: Part Two” isn’t the only major Legendary and Warner Bros. film affected by the strike. The studio has also delayed “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” by a month, to April 12, 2024.
The delayed film was not well received by fans, who had been anticipating Chalamet’s return as Atreides for over two years. Thankfully, Warner Bros. has kept some December movie releases on their current release timeline. These include “Wonka,” “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” and “The Color Purple.”
‘Dune’ Is Very Successful

Villeneuve’s first installment in the “Dune” series premiered in 2021 and was a huge success. The film grossed over $400 million at the worldwide box office, which is impressive given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the film industry.
The film’s performance was also affected by the simulcast on HBO Max. However, there was hope that the second film would do better, which is why it was delayed so that the strike did not affect its box office performance.
“Dune” was nominated for three categories at the 79th Golden Globe Awards and won Best Original Score. Reviews of the film praised Chalamet’s performance, with Telegraph said the actor was “ideally cast.” Another review from The Independent praised Villeneuve, saying, “’Dune’ is a sandworm that explodes out of the darkness below. It’s a film so literally and emotionally huge that it overwhelms the senses.
