Earlier this month, Variety caught up with Denise Richards, who was in Cannes promoting her new series, “Paper Empire.” At the premiere, Denise recalled the critical comments made about her character at the time.

“It hurts me because people make fun of me,” she called out, saying that people would make comments to her like, “Oh, really? You wear shorts and you’re a nuclear scientist?”

“I’m playing a Bond girl,” she reminded fans. “If I’m wearing a lab coat and pants and a suit, then [fans] must be upset, like, ‘Okay, why doesn’t she look like a hot Bond girl?’”

This isn’t the first time Denise Richards has voiced her opinion about the criticism she’s received from her Bond Girl character. In 2012, more than a decade ago, he told USA Today that “there aren’t too many scientists running around in shorts with tattoos.”

“A lot of people made fun of how I dressed when the movie came out,” she said at the time. “That’s part of the appeal of Bond. These Bond girls are so outrageous and if I really look like a scientist, Bond fans will be disappointed.”

Despite releasing her memoir, “The Real Girl Next Door,” in 2011, the “Starship Troopers” alum told Variety that she has been “very quiet” about her negative experiences in Hollywood, especially in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

“Of course it’s the male Bond, I’m sorry,” he told the publication. “I probably get a lot of flak for this. But the fact is that the Bond franchise is based on a book franchise and Bond is the man in the book and I believe [they should] get on with it.”

“I do, and people will probably— on me for that, but I believe,” she continued, adding that “They could do a spinoff where a Bond girl becomes a female Bond.” Denise concluded her thoughts on the matter, saying, “But I guess James Bond is James Bond.”

In a separate interview with Variety, the “RHOBH” admitted that he will return to the show in a limited capacity. “I’ve shot a few episodes,” he said. “And it’s fun. And you know, I’m a huge fan of the show, so it’s fun to go back and shoot a lot with them.”

“When I left after my second season, I just felt as if some of the women were very toxic and they played very dirty,” she continued. “I understand there has to be drama, but I also enjoy seeing women having fun, especially in this age group.”

“I also think it’s good to show you can have fun,” she added. “But I don’t think it’s a positive message to try and bring people down. You can have your opinion, but don’t try to bring people down. I don’t think it’s right. I mean, that part I don’t like.”
