Derek Chauvin Leaves Hospital After Surviving 22 Stab Wounds In Prison

Derek Chauvin was transferred back to prison from a local hospital for follow-up treatment after being stabbed multiple times in prison.

The former Minneapolis police officer, who is currently serving a 22-year sentence for the murder of George Floyd, is said to have been stabbed by a fellow inmate who intended to kill him.

Chauvin’s release from the hospital came after his family called the Federal Correctional Institution [FCI] in Tucson, Arizona, for hiding from them about attacks on their loved ones.

New reports have emerged revealing that Chauvin was stabbed 22 times with a makeshift knife in the prison library by Mexican gangsters and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. [FBI] informant, John Turscak.

The career criminal claimed that he chose November 24, the day after Thanksgiving, to carry out the stabbing because of its symbolic connection to Black Lives Matter. [BLM] movement, which originated in Floyd’s murder.

The 52-year-old admitted he would have killed Chauvin if not for the quick response of corrections officers, who had to use pepper spray to subdue him. In addition to linking the stabbing to the BLM movement, Turscak stated that he chose Black Friday in honor of the “Black Hand” symbol associated with the Mexican Mafia.

Known as “Stranger,” Turscak now faces an additional decade in prison for the attack on Chauvin instead of leaving prison grounds in 2026 after serving 30 years and has since been transferred to an adjacent federal prison in Tucson.

follow Daily Mail, the convicted felon gained attention more than 20 years ago for assisting in the indictment of more than 40 suspected Mexican Mafia members as informants. However, he was later removed from the investigation and charged after admitting to crimes such as drug trafficking, allowing assault, and extortion.

Meanwhile, concerns for Chauvin’s safety have led his family, represented by attorney Gregory Erickson, to request that he be removed from the prison facility following the incident. According to Erickson in a statement:

“His family is very concerned about the facility’s ability to protect Derek from further harm. They remain unconvinced that any changes were made to the faulty procedure that allowed Derek’s attack to happen in the first place.”

Chauvin Family Vows To Take Legal Action Against FCI Officials

In the days after the world learned of Chauvin’s stabbing, his mother, Carolyn Pawlenty, expressed her dismay at learning about it through the media.

“How does this news agency know and her own mother doesn’t?” he said before revealing that prison authorities had neglected to contact him about the event even though they had listed him as an emergency contact. The parent added:

“I can’t even think of what to say. I hadn’t slept and was pacing my kitchen and living room floor.”

His attorney echoed his sentiments, saying in part in a statement that the jail’s actions “appear to demonstrate a poorly run facility and show how Derek’s assault was allowed to happen.”

He then touched on his concern that family members responsible for decisions about Chauvin’s medical treatment were not informed immediately after the stabbing, highlighting FCI’s inadequate procedures and lack of controls.

Erickson came back to reveal that despite their pleas, his client’s family still has no information about the circumstances that led to his stabbing in prison. He detailed that although he had made eight attempts to contact prison officials since the incident on Black Friday, he had received no response.

Worryingly, Chauvin’s family allegedly learned of his stable condition only once through contact with his father. The attorney characterized the lack of transparency as “unfair and cruel,” directly attributing the delay in updating his client’s next of kin to the federal facility in Tucson.

According to The Blast, he also asserted that the prison facility showed negligence regarding the Oakdale native’s safety, citing him as the most high-profile inmate they have had in custody since former American football player OJ Simpson.

Additionally, Erickson relayed that if the Chauvin family remains uninformed about the situation, they will consider legal options.
