The “DWTS” judge graced the red carpet for Jennifer Lopez’s “This is Me… Now: A Love Story,” where she engaged in a conversation with the media. Giving an update on his wife after the emergency craniectomy and subsequent cranioplasty, the dancer shared:
“He is unbelievable. When I married him, I knew he was strong, but I really didn’t realize how strong he was until now. I’m just, I’m in awe of him every day.”

He later raved about Hayley as “amazing” and called her a “miracle”, a word he claimed he didn’t “really throw away.” In an interview with ETDerek added:
“It’s a crazy time, but I tell you what, it’s an amazing and wonderful time, because all the little victories, the victories, it’s amazing. He’s amazing.”
According to the outlet, Hayley was rushed to the hospital on December 6, after suffering a concussion while performing on her and Derek’s “Spectacular Symphony of Dance Tour.”
Derek revealed at the time that his wife had suffered a cranial hematoma, which is characterized by a pooling of blood in the skull, usually caused by a ruptured blood vessel in the brain. According to the Mayo Clinic, this condition can also be caused by trauma such as a car accident or a fall.
The online celebrity later underwent two cranial surgeries to deal with a cranial hematoma and has worked tirelessly to recover from the terrifying incident that threatened her life.
Earlier this month, The Blast reported that Hayley herself spoke about her experience for the first time in a post shared on social media earlier this month. He stated:
“Here I am today. It has been quite a journey. So much has happened in two months. Lots of emotions. All things. To this day, I still have really good days and really bad days. Emotionally and physically. But I’m doing better every day. Like, really, there’s so much progress every day. I am very grateful for that.”

“We’re in a redwood forest, but we got married right in front of this mother tree surrounded by all these smaller trees. They drop all the seeds, and it plants like an army of children to protect the mother. The symbolism is very beautiful. We are here, planting our seeds to grow our family.”
