Derek Hough revealed that his wife of three months, Hayley Erbert, underwent emergency surgery after a health scare.
The “Dancing with the Stars” judge shared that Erbert was diagnosed with a skull hematoma after he was taken to the hospital feeling disoriented.

Hough took to Instagram to release a statement addressing Erbert’s health condition. “At the end of the tour last night in Washington, DC, my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital,” he said.

The famed DWTS choreographer continued, “He was diagnosed with a skull hematoma from a ruptured blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. He is in stable condition. I want to thank the first responders and medical staff who cared for him and continue to care for him.”
Hough ended his statement, asking fans and colleagues for “prayer and positivity” during the difficult time. Erbert is currently on the Symphony of Dance tour which starts on September 28. Not sure if future dates will be postponed due to the situation.
In no time, many members of the “DWTS” Hough family camped out in the comments section to share their well wishes. Jenna Johnson wrote, “Praying and sending you all our love. We love you Hayley, ♥️” while Emma Slater wrote, “Omg Derek, thinking of you right now. Sending Hayley so much love and healing light.”
Fellow judge Carrie Inn Anaba added, “Sending you and Hayley all my prayers and love,” while Alison Holker added, “Sending all my love, healing, and prayers!”
“DWTS” host Alfonso Ribeiro wrote, “Sending you all the love I have in my soul. Prayers for a speedy recovery.” This season’s winner Xochitl Gomez also commented, “Focusing all my positivity and congratulations directly to Hayley. He is a shining light ?.”
Erbert’s health scare comes nearly four months after he and Hough took their nearly eight-year relationship to a new level. The dancing lovebirds walked down the aisle in a grand and intimate ceremony held in Monterey County, California, in front of 106 guests.
The two exchanged vows in a redwood forest themed ceremony that had a sentimental meaning to their love. “We’re in a redwood forest, but we got married right in front of this mother tree surrounded by all these smaller trees,” Erbert shared in an interview.
He continued, “They dropped all the seeds, and it planted like an army of children to protect the mother. The symbolism is so beautiful. We are here, planting our seeds to grow our family.”
For her special day, the “Kiss the Girl” star took a breather in a custom satin duchess gown designed by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa, which she paired with a floor-length veil.
Hough, on the other hand, chose a black suit by Tom Ford for the ceremony and Brooks Brothers for the reception. The couple’s wedding bands were custom made from Paris Jewellers.

Hough and Erbert first met in 2014 when he and his sister Julianne Hough hired him to join them on tour. By 2015, the Kansas native joined the “Dancing with the Stars” family as a member of the troupe, bringing her closer to the “World of Dance” judges.
However, it was only in November 2016 that Derek confirmed that he was dating someone, but did not reveal his identity. The lovebirds finally became Instagram official in May 2017 with a throwback photo from a dance session.
Almost a year after the official, the couple suffered their first tragedy as a couple when Erbert and several members of the “DWTS” team were involved in a bush crash. Fortunately, Erbert was not injured. Hough opened up about the incident in a social media post,
“I am very grateful that my love is safe. To my DWTS family. I love you all and I am so glad you are all safe after the terrible accident. Be strong, be safe and I’ll see you soon.”
After seven years of dating, the 38-year-old dancer finally popped the big question to Erbert in June 2022. “It’s just the beginning…the beginning of forever ♥️,” Hough captioned the engagement announcement.
