Director Thomas Bidegain will come to Jake Gyllenhaal’s rescue and set the record straight about what happened on their film set.
Earlier this week, Gyllenhaal made headlines after a French magazine made allegations that the “Southpaw” displayed erratic behavior on the set of the upcoming film “Suddenly,” resulting in the project being terminated.
French Director Clears Posts About Jake Gyllenhaal
Bidegain recently explained why Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby left his project “Suddenly” after a previous interview with a French magazine reported that the BAFTA winner displayed problematic behavior, resulting in a loss of $26 million.

According to the French director, he parted ways with Kirby and Gyllenhaal strictly due to differences in creative decisions and had nothing to do with the actor’s alleged heinous actions.
Technikart magazine claimed in a column titled “Four Days to Bury a Movie” that the 43-year-old “stripped to his underwear and jumped into the freezing sea in front of the entire crew.”
In another instance, Gyllenhaal reportedly stated that the color of his rental car could not be red or white and mockingly read the script aloud in a mock French accent such as “Pepe Le Pew.”
Although Bidegain neither directly denied nor confirmed the claim, he told Variety Magazine, “People don’t understand how a movie is made. We’re not shooting, and we’re not in pre-production. Tentative shooting date is eight weeks away. The project was put together during the pandemic, so we only discussed via Zoom. We would talk every week, but we didn’t meet to talk about the film.”
He continued, “So I got the idea to set up that week in Iceland to read the script together, with Jake and Vanessa. I thought it would be good to meet there because it’s where we were thinking about shooting the movie, and it’s a place beautiful.”
The filmmaker stated that as the project progressed, Gyllenhaal became a producer because he was eager to have more creative input on the Indie film. “I do a lot of Zoom with Jake and Vanessa, so I think the three of us are on the same page. So when we meet in Iceland, I assume that we will just put the finishing touches on it,” Bidegain said of his expectations.

However, the opposite happened when they met in person. “But when we started reading the script in the same room, we realized that we didn’t have the same vision of what the film was about,” Bidegain admits. “They want more change. I tried to finish it once, twice — and then I just realized it wasn’t going to work, so it had to stop.”
There is also disagreement about the main theme of the film. In addition, Bidegain revealed that after a disagreement, Kirby approached him and asked if he could buy the script, but he declined.
Fans Believe Jake Gyllenhaal Deliberately Ended Project
Following reports of Gyllenhaal’s alleged behavior, fans took to Twitter to defend him, claiming he only acted the way he did because he wanted to be done with the project.
“Tell me you’re trying to get fired without telling me you’re trying to get fired…,” wrote one fan, writing, “Sounds like he’s trying to get fired to get out of the project,” sharing the same sentiment.
