At 1:30pm that day, the Royal Family announced the news to Twitter in a brief statement, writing, “The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
On Friday, King Charles III gave his first public address and was officially named King in the country’s first televised ceremony, which can be watched here. But, even as a new King was named, many continued to mourn the loss of the late Queen, including “Jolene” singer Dolly Parton, who paid tribute to Her Majesty on social media.

Dolly Parton Praises Late Queen’s ‘Grace and Strength’ In Touching Tribute
In a brief statement posted on her Instagram page, the “9 to 5” singer, now 76, wrote, “I had the honor of meeting and performing for Queen Elizabeth II on my trip to London in 1977. She brought her with grace and strength throughout his life.”
“May he rest in peace,” he continued. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. Darling, Dolly.”

Many fans showered the post with red heart emojis. “Must be an honor to meet him! Since he’s the one who met you❤️,” commented one follower. “From one Queen to Another?,” wrote another fan. “He should see the Angel of Earth before seeing the Angel of Heaven!” the third follower responded.
The Dollywood founder wasn’t the only musician to pay tribute to the late Queen, as many famous faces took to social media to pay their respects.

Sir Elton John issued a lengthy statement on social media. “Along with the rest of the country, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,” he said.
“She was an inspiring presence to be around and led the nation through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace, poise and genuine warmth.”
“Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her very much,” he added.

Musician Ozzy Osbourne shared a photo of His Majesty, tweeting“I mourn with my country the passing of our greatest Queen.”
“It is with a heavy heart that I say it shatters the thought of England without Queen Elizabeth II,” he added.
Paul McCartney Recalls ‘Eight or Nine’ Times He Met Queen Elizabeth II
On Friday afternoon, 80-year-old Beatles musician Sir Paul McCartney took to Instagram to recall the “eight or nine” times he met the Queen. “In the sad event of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, my memory came back and I want to share it with you,” he wrote.
“I feel lucky to be alive during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. When I was 10 I entered an essay competition in Liverpool and won my section for my essay on the British Monarchy so I’ve been a fan for a long time,” he continued.

“In 1953 when the Queen was crowned everyone in our street in Speke, Liverpool finally got a television set and we sat down to watch the Coronation in glorious black and white,” he added.
“Looking back, I am honored and amazed to see that I met His Majesty eight or nine times and each time he was impressed by his great sense of humor combined with great dignity,” he concluded. “God bless you. You will be missed.”
