Don Lemon Paid Hefty Sum By CNN To Settle Anchor’s Network Ouster

Don Lemon has scored a big goal in his deal to leave CNN.

According to sources close to the situation, the 57-year-old will receive nearly $25 million as part of his agreement to part ways with the news network.

The amount of the loss would have covered his entire salary if he stayed for the remaining three and a half years of his contract with CNN.

The drama surrounding Lemon’s departure from CNN began when he made comments about 51-year-old Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley who was “past her prime.”

Although the journalist declared that conversations about age make her “uncomfortable,” she told “CNN This Morning” co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins during a February 2023 episode of the show:

“He said … politicians are not in their prime. Nikki Haley is not in her prime. Sorry. A woman is considered to be in their prime [their] 20s, 30s, and maybe 40s.”

When Harlow asked Lemon to explain, she said, “That doesn’t follow me. If you Google ‘When is a woman in her prime,’ it will say the 20s, 30s and 40s. I’m not necessarily — I’m not saying I agree with that.”

Hours after the comments about Haley, Lemon publicly apologized, stating via X, formerly known as Twitter, that he regretted the “reference” he “made to a woman’s ‘prima’ this morning was artless and irrelevant.”

He also posted, “A woman’s age doesn’t define either personally or professionally. I have many women in my life who prove that every day.”

Although he apparently agreed to undergo “formal training” and return to the air a week later, the longtime CNN anchor would once again take over X in April 2023 to announce that CNN had fired him. His long statement at the time began:

“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I was stunned. After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”

After claiming that he hasn’t gotten “any indication” that he won’t be able to “continue to do the work” he “loves at the network,” he added, “It’s clear that there are some bigger issues at play.”

Lemon concluded his announcement with thanks to “colleagues and the many teams I’ve worked with for an incredible run.”

Now, with the $24.5 million he allegedly received from CNN in a takedown deal, the Louisiana native is set to debut a new show on X in the coming weeks. As he mentioned in an update, the show, titled “The Don Lemon Show,” will allow him to be “bigger, bolder, freer.”

Lemon’s Decision To Perform His Show On X Received Negative Reaction From Fans

While running his own show was a huge win for Lemon, many social media users were less than happy with his decision to host on X. To that end, they expressed their displeasure in the comments section of an Instagram post that Edward R. Murrow Award recipient once make an announcement.

“So glad you’re back!!!!! I’m sorry, but I can’t subscribe to X. I won’t support the owner. But please let us know when you’re branching out and cheering to the next chapter,” one Instagram user commented, as another revealed, “You’ve given me up to ‘X’ sir.”

A third fan pointed out, “I had to re-read your sentence about X three times. Biggest room for free speech? Does EM contractually oblige you to write that??? Hope to see you on another platform.”

Similarly, a fourth disgruntled person mused, “Why X?!? Can’t subscribe to Mr. Wacko anymore. Maybe find a better platform???,” while a fifth stated, “You’re better off using YouTube! X’s popularity has been declining over time. Don’t go out like this.”

At the same time, the sixth online personality said, “I’m so excited for you! Unfortunately, I can’t support X, but SECOND you are available on other platforms, I’ll be there with the bell on! Good luck and lots of love!”
