Donald Trump and his legal team have filed an appeal over the nearly half-billion dollar verdict in his civil fraud case in New York.
The billionaire mogul is seeking to overturn the judgment to prevent himself from losing part of his fortune.
In the meantime, he is expected to get a stay of judgment while appealing the case. Failure to do so by March 25 will entitle the New York Attorney General’s office to enforce the judgment.
Donald Trump’s Lawyer Wants Court of Appeals to Review Decision

On Monday, Trump’s lawyers filed an appeal in an appeals court in New York to overturn Judge Arthur Engoron’s ruling that slapped the former president with an initial $355 million fine for inflating the value of his assets in financial documents.
Due to additional interest, the fine has increased to nearly $454 million and will continue to increase by $112,000 per day until Trump pays.
According to reports, Trump’s lawyers stated in the filing that they want the appeals court to consider whether Engoron “made errors of law and/or fact” and if he “acted in excess” of his authority as a judge in New York.
If the decision is ultimately upheld, Trump’s wealth is expected to take a massive hit, as he may be required to sell some assets to pay the fine. However, there is still hope that the case will be appealed again at the appeals court, the state’s highest court.
The former president has promised to appeal the lawsuit

Trump’s appeal is expected, as he vowed to do so following the ruling, which he called an “un-American judgment.” At the time, he also slammed Engoron and the New York attorney general’s office, which is headed by Leticia James.
He accused Engoron of being “crooked” and described James as “corrupt,” adding that the decision was a case of “electoral interference” and a “witch hunt.”
Before the court date for the appeal, Trump needs a legal mechanism called a stay to stop the enforcement of the judgment.
The Republican presidential front-runner can automatically get a stay by putting up money, assets, or appeal bonds to cover his debts. Alternatively, he may seek a ruling from the appeals court, which may or may not result in a lower bond.
The former president has until March 25 to seek accommodation, or he risks having his assets seized by the New York attorney general’s office. It is not clear whether he has done so or is in the process of obtaining it.
Letitia James Ready To Seize Donald Trump’s Assets

James previously told ABC News reporter that he was prepared to seize Trump’s assets if he couldn’t raise the money to pay his fine. He stated that he was focused on Trump’s 40 Wall Street building.
“If he doesn’t have the funds to pay the judgment, then we will get the judgment enforcement mechanism in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets,” James said.
“We are ready to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I see 40 Wall Street every day,” added the New York state AG.
James also slammed Trump’s claim that his case was “victimless,” noting that “Financial fraud is not a victimless crime.”
“He was involved in this huge amount of fraud. It’s not just a simple mistake, a little mistake; the variation is greatly exaggerated, and the level of deception is staggering,” James continued. “If the average New Yorker goes to the bank and hands over a fake document, the government will throw the book at them, and the same goes for former presidents.”

The decision from Engoron has caused a lot of discussion on social media whether it is right or wrong.
While some sided with Trump and slammed the decision as biased, others supported him and called on the former president to pay the fine himself after MAGA supporters opened a GoFundMe page for him.
The GoFundMe in question has since hit $1 million and is on its way to $1.3 million after 22.4k donations were made. The call for it to be shot down was
According to Elena Cardone, the person who launched the page, the money collected will not be sued for anything other than its purpose.
“We want to be clear about the purpose of using the funds obtained. Every dollar will be used only to cover fines related to the New York civil fraud case, its appeal, and any related expenses,” he said in a statement on the page.
