Donald Trump goes off on Nikki Haley in racially charged rant ahead of ex-SC gov’s ‘must-win’ NH primary

DES MOINES, Iowa – Former President Donald Trump turned on 2024 GOP rival Nikki Haley late Tuesday and early Wednesday, with less than a week to go before what many observers see as a must-win New Hampshire primary for the former South Carolina governor.

“Anyone who listens to Nikki ‘Nimrada’ [sic] Haley’s speech made last night, would have thought that she won the Iowa Primary. He didn’t do it,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Nikki came in a distant THIRD!”

Haley’s full name is Nimarata Nikki Haley — and her critics often use her first name to draw unflattering attention to her Indian heritage.

“He said he wouldn’t go against me, ‘he’s a great President,’ and he should have followed his own advice. Now he’s stuck with a WEAK BASE, and a VERY STRONG MAGA BASE, and there’s nothing he can do!” Trump continued.

Haley’s team quickly brushed aside the nagging of him for desperation on the 77-year-old’s part.

“Donald Trump attacked Nikki for one reason: He’s got momentum and he’s scared,” campaign spokeswoman AnnMarie Graham-Barnes told The Post.

“This is a two-man race between Nikki and Trump. Voters have a choice: the chaos, drama, and personal grievances of the past, or a new generation of conservative leadership.”

Trump also reposted a clip from his speech Tuesday night in Atkinson, NH, in which he warned, “Haley is counting on Democrats and liberals to infiltrate your Republican Party.”

In another clip he shared, the 45th president chided Haley for being backed by “RINOs, globalists, and lunatics that Trump never was.”

Trump later shared an image combining the likeness of Haley and her 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton, with a campaign logo incorporating the former first lady’s “arrow H” from her unsuccessful presidential run.

Trump also criticized Haley for supporting entitlement reform, which he described as “cuts to Social Security benefits,” and called her out on her past support for raising the gas tax while governor of South Carolina.

Haley had stated in 2015 that she would support a gas tax increase as long as it was paired with a state income tax cut.

“Haley is the establishment candidate loved by Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney,” read another meme shared by Trump.

For weeks, Trump’s top allies have grappled with speculation that the former president could use Haley as his running mate — a possibility no one has completely ruled out.

As Trump launched his attacks on Haley, the former ambassador did the same to her.

“I will go after Trump. That’s what I said. I did that, not for personal reasons, but the fact is I don’t want my children to live like this. At some point, something’s got to give,” Haley told CNN Tuesday.

“The people are tired of division and chaos. We cannot go through four more years of chaos. We will not survive.”

He also compared Trump to President Biden.

“They’re both exactly the same: They’re both in their 80s; they both put us trillions of dollars in debt; they are both dealing with disturbing investigations; both of them have always shown us that they have no forward vision,” Haley said.

Trump will be 82 years old after leaving office if he is elected and serves the full four years. Biden is 81 years old.

With six days to go before the New Hampshire primary, a new Suffolk University/NBC10 Boston/Boston Globe poll pegs Trump with 50% support among likely Republican voters, followed by Haley at 34% and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 5%.

The poll, which sampled 500 respondents and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points, is the first major New Hampshire poll to appear following Trump’s landslide victory in the Iowa caucuses and the withdrawal of former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy from the race. .
