While speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Moran explained that once the mural is removed, the space will be used for advertising.

“It’s a piece of art that honors an iconic person,” Moran told the Times. “The mural is also beneficial for advertising and means a lot to the city and Kobe fans. So I said I disagree. I don’t want to upset the fans and I don’t want to be disrespectful and I don’t think the mural should be removed.”

The mural was painted over three years ago. Palsino felt that keeping the mural was good for the landlord and should not be removed.

“You’ve got to put some flavor into it, man, and think about it and what it means to LA,” Palsino told The Times. “Even if the host wants to make money, it’s a landmark people come from all over the world to visit so it’s good for him, his property, every party for that matter. I don’t see much sense in taking it down for commercials.”
