Dream wedding shut down by cops after ‘10-minute ceremony’ over permit issue, noise complaints: ‘I just start instantly bawling’

An Arizona bride cried on her wedding day when police forced the couple to shut down their reception within minutes when the venue did not have the proper permits to host the event and neighbors complained about loud music.

“We had a beautiful 10-minute ceremony, and as soon as we turned on the DJ, it was like the police were there,” Bride Holliann Tran told Arizona Family Wednesday.

“The police were like, ‘We’ve got to shut it down.’ And I’m like you’re kidding, this isn’t true. And they said, ‘No, you’re renting a place that’s not really a place,’ and I started crying immediately.

Tran rented Wrangler’s Roost in New River, a historic Stagecoach stop 30 miles outside Phoenix and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, to host her special day in November 2022.

The three-house property, advertised as a space for private events, was exactly what she and her husband-to-be were looking for.

Bride Holliann Tran says her wedding day was ruined after the venue she rented didn’t disclose to her they didn’t have a permit to host the event. “It is a beautiful place. Just a really beautiful view of the desert,” Trab told the outlet.

“I think it’s going to be a real place for everyone to meet in the middle and we found a place that allows parties.”

However, just as the couple officially tied the knot and were ready to celebrate, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office delivered the shocking news to the newlyweds.

Bodycam footage from the wedding night obtained by Arizona’s Family shows Tran, still in her stunning dress, being told it’s time to end the event.

Police body camera footage captured the moment officers forced the couple to close their reception. AZ Family Bride was told by officials that they received a nasal complaint, which prompted them to respond, given the ongoing issue. The AZ family

“The issue is that this is not a valid location,” an official told Tran. “Maricopa County zoning and ordinances have told them to cease and desist if they want to operate.”

The bride’s father comforted her when the officer told them the nose complaint had told them and that they could hear the music from 1,600 feet away.

The owners of Wrangler’s Roost, Heidi and Reid Stewart, have received more than 61 complaints about illegally hosting events on their property since July 2021 and have received at least $70,000 in the process, according to Arizona Family.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Officer Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez explained that his party had received more than 61 complaints about the property hosting illegal events. WBAL

“The owner of this property is running a business out of what is supposed to be their residence because it is not zoned for commercial,” Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez, with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, told the outlet.

Neighbor Marko Dapevic claims “the sheriff’s office has been recording decibels in the mid-60s inside our house” at night for the past five years.

“It sounds amazing,” Dapevich told the outlet. “We can play that name song in our bedroom at 10 o’clock at night.”

The Maricopa County Noise Ordinance states that community members are prohibited from operating “radios and sound-amplifying devices” that produce noise that can be heard from 500 feet or more beyond the property from which it originates.

The Stewarts have reportedly been ordered to stop advertising or hosting any commercial business at the property without the proper permits in 2021, something the newlyweds were unaware of.

“It looked like a real legal scene until the police showed up,” Tran said, explaining that she immediately called the Stewarts to demand an explanation and was told to “turn the music back on.”

The couple lost nearly $10,000 and countless memories before they were granted a partial refund, but Tran was left with a bittersweet experience.

“It’s your money, your hard work that you put out for the day, and it’s also for me, the person who travels across the country,” he told the outlet.

“You plan your whole life for this special day, and then for someone to take it away, it’s really disappointing. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
