The actress who comes from a family of actors shared in a recent interview that she often wished her mother had died because of their bad relationship growing up.

As part of the revelation, the actor, who had a troubled childhood with his mother, shared that he often wondered why his mother was still alive when his friend’s mother was “gone”.
He said, per Daily Mail, “All their mothers are gone, and mine is gone. I don’t have that luxury. But I can’t wait.”
Barrymore stated that although she has complicated feelings for her mother, she doesn’t want to be in a place where she wants someone’s untimely death just for her personal growth.
She added, “I want him to be happy, to thrive, and to be healthy. But I have to raise the king even when he’s on this planet.”

Doubling down on her statement, Barrymore said of her mother, “I wouldn’t care. I don’t know if I ever knew how to fully control, shut down, not feel, build that wall.”
She also shared that she doesn’t dwell on her painful past or blame others for the allegations. “I choose very consciously not to see my life as something that has been done to me,” the actress said. “I want to see it as something I do and choose to do. I’m not interested in people who blame others. I don’t think it’s sexy.”
However, growing up in such circumstances took an emotional toll on Barrymore, who said she wished she could give herself a “king’s break”.
He said, “I’ve been a circus bear all my life. I swear to God, if the ringmaster leaves the tent, I’ll be the ringmaster and start blaming myself.”

She stated during the conversation that her mother “exploited” her and sent her to a mental institution at 13. Describing that time as her “lowest,” Barrymore went on to reveal that she was “angry” that her “parents” weren’t there for her.
Instead, the actor benefited from his time at the institution, saying it gave him “incredible discipline.”
He said, “It was like a serious recruiting exercise and boot camp, and it was horrible and dark and very long, a year and a half, but I needed it.
“I need that whole crazy discipline. My life is not normal. I was not a child at school with normal circumstances. There is something very abnormal, and I need a change badly.”
