Talk with New York MagazineHollywood veteran Barrymore has opened up about her strained relationship with her mother, Jaid, saying she “can’t wait” for her to die.

As part of the revelation, the actor, who had a troubled childhood with his mother, shared that he often wondered why his mother was still alive when his friend’s mother was “gone”.

He said, per Daily Mail, “All their mothers are gone, and mine is gone. I don’t have that luxury. But I can’t wait.”

Barrymore stated that although she has complicated feelings for her mother, she doesn’t want to be in a place where she wants someone’s untimely death just for her personal growth.

She added, “I want him to be happy, to thrive, and to be healthy. But I have to raise the king even when he’s on this planet.”

He Doesn’t Remember His Past Pain

Doubling down on her statement, Barrymore said of her mother, “I wouldn’t care. I don’t know if I ever knew how to fully control, shut down, not feel, build that wall.”

She also shared that she doesn’t dwell on her painful past or blame others for the allegations. “I choose very consciously not to see my life as something that has been done to me,” the actress said. “I want to see it as something I do and choose to do. I’m not interested in people who blame others. I don’t think it’s sexy.”

However, growing up in such circumstances took an emotional toll on Barrymore, who said she wished she could give herself a “king’s break”.

He said, “I’ve been a circus bear all my life. I swear to God, if the ringmaster leaves the tent, I’ll be the ringmaster and start blaming myself.”
