Mourning For Screen Actors Guild Award Winners
A TikTok psychologist was forced to come to the defense of Primetime Emmy Award nominee fans after they were called out for expressing their grief on social media. As reported by The Blast, Perry’s fans want to know why they felt such a strong emotional impact from the death of someone they never knew.

At the same time, critics questioned the logic behind the sadness of losing a television personality. In response to both questions, a psychology and sociology instructor named Casey Lytle provided an answer. A professor of psychology stated:
“There’s a very simple answer to this one. Sadness isn’t determined by proximity. Your brain doesn’t care if you’ve known them or not. Sadness is determined by the amount of emotional memories attached to that person.”
The “Debunked: Separate the Rational from the Irrational in Influential Conspiracy Theories” author then touched on the emotional encounter fans experienced regarding the “Friends” star. In his words:
“How many emotional experiences do you have through their media, whatever it is, if it’s TV, or movies, or music, or literature. Either way, that person has an emotional stake and an emotional connection to you through their work or through who they are.”
Lytle goes on to explain that celebrities, including Perry, can relate to certain times in our lives through their work, and this connection gives them emotional significance.
“And when that person is gone, your brain is sad that they’re gone,” the TikTok star said. Turning his attention to critics towards the end of the video, he reveals:
“Just because you don’t feel the same impact just because you don’t care about any of the characters doesn’t mean it’s invalid for them. I mean, are you going to go to someone else’s funeral and criticize the family for grieving that person?”
