Cheryl Burke is likely to spin away from the ballroom.
After 26 seasons appearing and wearing the top dancer crown for two consecutive seasons of “Dancing With the Stars,” the 38-year-old may be setting his sights on a new challenge. She made the revelation during a recent episode of the podcast after she and her season 31 dance partner, Sam Champion, were kicked off the show.
Cheryl Burke Considers Quitting Dance To Pursue Other Endeavors

Using the “Burke in the Game” podcast to tease her possible exit from “DWTS,” Burke began by recalling how people asked if this would be her last season on the dance competition show. In response, he said:
“The answer to that question is likely yes; this is my last season, as a dancer, that is. Being a part of a show for 26 seasons, it was tough for me [to leave].”
The dance professional stated that his constant return to the show may have something to do with the difficulty of saying “goodbye to the show and the family” he only knew in Los Angeles,” adding that he moved to the city 21. ” The Suite Life of Zack guest stars & Cody” continued:
“I know a lot of people say it’s because I want children, [but] that’s not why…The reason is because I want to be okay with the uncertainty of what life will throw at me. Until I close one chapter, how can I expect another to open?”
Burke noted that while her days as one of the top dancers may be behind her, she doesn’t want to leave the “DWTS” family entirely. To the “I Can Do That” contestants, she has “proved” herself enough to land a role as either a reporter or host.
While clarifying that he’s not after anyone’s job, the 2005 San Francisco Latin Champion said there’s room for additional judges or hosts because “it’s a two-hour show with no commercial breaks.”
Although she didn’t get one of those roles, Burke said she’s “grateful regardless” because “it is what it is. Life goes on. There is life after Dancing With the Stars. I know that.”
Burke’s surprise announcement came after he and Champion — the former “Good Morning America” weatherman — couldn’t get above the mid-20s score range. According to Cosmopolitan, the pair came in at the bottom of week 4, eventually being eliminated over Emma Slater and Trevor Donovan.
Pro Dancer Manages Potential Loss of Dog Custody
Earlier this month, The Blast reported that Burke was dealing with the possible loss of her dog, a female Frenchie named Ysabella. The 2006 PrimeTime Emmy winner for “Outstanding Choreography” opened up about her feelings and her intentions to fight for the dog in her podcast.
After revealing how she found out about her divorce being finalized on the opening night of “DWTS,” Burke said, “It’s not over yet because we might have to go to trial — well, we’re going to go to trial unless [Lawrence] suddenly turn it off. That will happen in January. I am still very hurt by this situation.”
The TV host, who is married to Matthew Lawrence, couldn’t hide her feelings as she spoke about how she “couldn’t imagine” her life without Ysabella. In case you missed it, Burke filed for divorce from her ex-husband of 42 years in February, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the action.
While the former couple has no problem dividing their property, figuring out who will take full custody of Ysabella may involve some legal drama. While still in the air, legal documents show that the model earned her fortune thanks to a prenuptial agreement she and Lawrence signed before they walked down the aisle in 2019.
According to the deal, Burke will keep all earnings and royalties from her time with “DWTS,” along with any money and residuals she makes from “QVC.” The same goes for her ex-husband, a former child star, who will keep her residuals and royalties. The former spouses also agreed to waive spousal support payments to each other.
