Ed Sheeran shattered fans’ Super Bowl expectations.
Playing at an event as prominent as the Super Bowl Halftime Show — with previous acts including Prince, Beyonce, Micheal Jackson and Rihanna — is a career-defining achievement. So far, there has been no concrete decision on who will play in Super Bowl LVIII.
Many names, from rapper Lizzo to former One Direction member Harry Styles, have been tossed around, but nothing of substance has come of it. The latest name tossed around is that of the “Thinking Out Loud” singer, but she’s not really into it.
Ed Sheeran Says Whether He’ll Ever Do a Super Bowl Halftime Show
During a recent interview with Andy Cohen on “Andy Cohen’s Deep & Shallow Podcast on SiriusXM” ahead of his incredible performance in New York, the British star discussed the possibility of playing on the iconic sports show.
When the Talk show host asked if he would “do the Super Bowl,” the singer revealed that there had been talk of him joining Coldplay—also British—to sing “Thinking Out Loud” when the band headlined in 2016.

The musician also told Cohen that he would consider joining the headliners but didn’t see the appeal of being a big-name performer. “I don’t think anybody wants to see me do the Super Bowl,” he admitted before adding, “I think the only way I’m going to do it is if I join somebody else.”
Further into the conversation, he listed a few more reasons for maintaining his interest in the show, one of which is that he thinks “it’s an American thing.” “I have no pizzazz,” he added.
Ed Sheeran also noted that his regular shows still featured him with his loop pedal, which was not enough for an NFL show. He featured great performances from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and The Weeknd as standards. In his words:
“All these great players, I’m not like that. I won’t have dancers on stage. I won’t have fireworks and blah blah, I can’t; that’s not me.”
Earlier, on the same platform, the “Perfect” singer also denied claims about turning down an invitation to perform at the Coronation Concert of King Charles III on Sunday, May 7, at Windsor Castle.
At the time, reports confirmed the English singer and several others had been invited to perform at the landmark event; however, he insists that he has never received any offer from Buckingham Palace. Regarding the report, he stated:
“A lot of people tell me how random it is [Katy Perry and Lionel Richie] will sing at the Coronation of the King… I want to clarify something.”
The “Shape Of You” musician added that no one had ever asked him to perform before saying, “I’m assuming if they went online and went ‘what is Ed doing on May 6,’ they’d go ‘oh he’s playing in Dallas,’ so I think that’s what happened.”
The 32-year-old stated that he “never turned it down” because he wasn’t asked. Nevertheless, he was eager to attend the “historic” ceremony. Although fans didn’t get to see her perform, the event was apparently in the hands of full-time “American Idol” judges Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.
The Singer Has Explored Other Music Genres
Fans of the “Antisocial” singer may not have seen her headline the Super Bowl, but they certainly saw her continue her desire to move into country music with her show-stopping performance at the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards.
Although he has achieved success in the pop genre with his delightful lyrical prowess, he expressed his ambition to take his music career to another level— and he did.
The “Hearts Don’t Break Around Here” singer put on a pretty good show at the ACMs, treating the audience to an unusually fresh sound. The British singer-songwriter performs her new song “Life Goes On” alongside national award-winning star Luke Combs.
Combs first performed her hit song, “Love You Anyway,” from her “Gettin’ Old” album. When it was over, the camera cut to Sheeran, who was playing guitar and singing “Life Goes On” from his new album, “Subtract.” Midway through the acoustic performance, Combs joins in to harmonize the track.
