Eddie Murphy Wants Donkey Spinoff, Takes a Shot At ‘Puss In Boots’

Eddie Murphy hopes to bring the beloved Donkey back to the screen in “Shrek 5” as well as a Donkey spin-off.

Murphy first lent his voice to the beloved horse in 2001 when “Shrek” was released. The franchise has spawned three more films as well as the latest spin-off, “Puss In Boots.”

The actor, however, feels as if his character deserves a spinoff and is ready to give Donkey his due.

The 61-year-old actor spoke with Etalk, where he admitted he would be open to another “Shrek” movie.

“I’m totally open if they come up with another Shrek, I’ll do it in two seconds. I love Donkey,” said Eddie Murphy.

The actor then went on to say how Donkey deserves a spin-off more than Puss in Boots, who is voiced by Antonio Banderas and has had two spin-off films featuring the character – “Puss In Boots” (2011) and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish ” (2022).

“You know, they made a Puss in Boots movie. I was like, ‘They should make a Donkey movie,'” Murphy continued. “Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I like Puss in Boots, but he’s not as funny as Donkey.”

He continued, “I’m going to do a Donkey movie. I’m going to do Shrek again in two seconds.”

Murphy went on to appeal to DreamWorks Animation, saying, “That’s what Dreamworks Animation is. They must want to do it. Dreamworks, if you all want to do it, just contact me. I’m ready, I’m sitting and ready to do Donkey.”
