Eight people were injured and a car and an ambulance caught fire in a possible shooting in Colorado, authorities said.
The incident got out of control when a suspect or suspects opened fire on another vehicle on a highway in Wellington on Thursday afternoon, causing the victim’s car to crash and catch fire, The Larimer Sheriff’s Office tweeted.
Pictures from the crash site showed the burning car still smoking as it lay in a large area of burnt grass.
The suspect’s vehicle fled the scene before being apprehended, local officials added.
None of the six passengers in the victim’s car were hit by gunfire, but they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries from the crash, the statement added.
An ambulance responding to the fiery wreck also caught fire, although no one was injured.
In all, eight people were sent to the hospital as a result of the incident, the Larimer Sheriff’s Office said.

It was unclear whether the other two injured parties were first responders or other drivers.
“Investigators are still collecting witness information and processing the scene for evidence. We will share more information as it becomes available,” the office wrote Thursday night.
The crash prompted officials to close nearby highways, which all reopened around 12:30 a.m. Friday.
