Elderly couple evicted after they claim own son transferred home they’ve been making payments on for 20 years

A California couple claims they were evicted from the home they had been living in and making payments for the past two decades when their son transferred ownership behind their backs.

Ismael and Angelita Ramirez have lived in the same Fresno home for 20 years, making payments and raising their family and were shocked, when in April they received an eviction notice.

“Every month we pay $700 a month,” Ismael Ramirez told Fox 26. “We thought, why would our son do that to us if he knows the house is ours?”

The house, however, is not officially the Ramirez family because their name was never put on the house.

In 2003, the Ramirez family looked for a house with the help of their son because they did not speak English.

When they find a house they like, their son signs over the title as the sole owner, over his parents’ objections because they also want their names on the contract, but both the son and the seller convince them that it isn’t necessary.

“He told us, they told him, it’s not necessary. And also, because we don’t know English, that’s where they lied to us,” Ismael Ramirez told the outlet.

They didn’t know their son could change their lives, until earlier this year when he transferred ownership of the house to a woman without telling his parents — the same woman who had served an eviction notice on them evicting them when she was selling the property.

The couple failed to seek legal aid because they claimed each lawyer refused to take the case once they were told the ownership of the property was under the son’s name, according to the outlet.

“They left us with nothing.” Ismail Ramirez said. “At the moment, we feel like the world is collapsing on top of us, especially because I can’t walk and my wife is depressed and has high blood pressure throughout the situation.”

The son who transferred ownership hasn’t been heard from in more than five months, Fox 26 reported, with the other son, Ismael Jr., told he was sick but taken care of, as he was fine and healthy before he gave ownership of his parents’ home.

The family had asked the police to conduct a medical examination on the man but they also found nothing.

While they process the fact that they are homeless because of their son, the couple is living with their daughter and a GoFundMe has been set up by their other children in an effort to help them get back on their feet. While they process the fact that they are homeless because of their son, the couple is living with their daughter and a GoFundMe has been set up by their other children in an effort to help them get back on their feet.Gofundme

“My parents don’t deserve this pain that has been inflicted on them and it hurts us as a family,” said Fabian Ramirez on the crowdfunding page.

The page had raised nearly $24,000 of its $45,000 goal as of Wednesday morning.
