- In July 2019, Elnaaz was detained at Chicago international airport and questioned for approximately 3 hours by airport authorities. While explaining the ordeal he faced at the Chicago airport, Elnaaz said-
I had to stay at immigration for more than 3 hours or so and I was stopped by the officials to board my connecting flight. I hold a German passport and therefore I do not need a visa to travel to the United States. But because of my Iranian roots, I applied for a normal visa because Trump has put some bans on Iranians and they don’t get ESTAs anymore and that’s why they want to revise everything.”
