During a recent interview with Additional, Emily Blunt, along with Matt Damon, talks about Cillian Murphy’s extreme diet while filming “Oppenheimer.” Murphy went on a drastic diet to transform his body into the famous scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer.
She said, “He has such a monumental effort. And he can only eat, like, almonds every day. He’s so thin.” Blunt and Damon, also recently spoke with him Entertainment Tonight about when they made the movie. They revealed that Murphy missed most of their cast dinners due to his very limited diet for the film.

Damon says, “We invite Cillian to dinner every night, and he never goes,” and Blunt adds that Murphy mostly has “an almond every night or a little slice of apple.” Damon then added, “He lost so much weight for the part that he didn’t eat dinner, ever.”
“Oppenheimer” is directed by Christopher Nolan and will be officially released on July 21. In the film, Murphy plays Oppenheimer himself, the famous physicist known as the “father of the atomic bomb.” Blunt plays his wife, Kitty, and Damon plays General Leslie Groves. Murphy herself has previously spoken about her weight loss regimen for her character. In May, he spoke with New York Times and said, “I like acting with my body, and Oppenheimer has a very different physique and silhouette, which I wanted to correct.”
The “Peaky Blinders” star said he worked with “costumes and tailoring” to make his body look as much like Oppenheimer as possible. He noted that the famous physicist was “very thin, almost emaciated, existing on martinis and cigarettes.”
However, the actor has clarified during another interview that his diet is not safe and is not recommended for others. He told Caretaker“You get a little competitive with yourself, which is not healthy. I don’t advise it.”
Murphy also declined to reveal the specific foods he cut from his diet to get to Oppenheimer’s size or share how much weight he ended up losing. He said, “I don’t want to [the headlines] becomes, ‘Cillian lost X weight for the part.’”

In an interview with Deadline at the “Oppenheimer” premiere, he clarified his statement by saying, “Honestly, the story has become too much. I’m just taking some time off, not quitting Hollywood. I’m just taking a few months off to be with the kids.”
