Employee crushed to death after getting trapped in equipment at North Carolina car wash

A 26-year-old worker was trapped in equipment at a North Carolina car wash and was crushed to death, officials said.

Carolina “Brea” Franks, 26, was pronounced dead at Zips Car Wash in Weaverville on Saturday, Weaverville Police said.

“He was working at a car wash, cleaning, and he got tangled up in equipment. When they found him, he was dead,” Franks’ grandmother, Ernestine Franks, told WLOS.

Franks was raised by his grandmother from the age of six, explained the grieving brother.

He had returned from visiting his grandmother in Kentucky just hours before his death.

Ernestine Franks learned of her grandson’s accident Saturday afternoon from Franks’ fiance’s father, she said.

“I was only with him, so I couldn’t believe it. I was surprised,” he lamented.

Franks had been working at the car wash for about five months, Ernestine told WLOS.

“He enjoys his job. He said it was a good job. He is special. He loves everyone. He likes animals. She was just a nice young lady,” he recalled.

Zips Car Wash – which has more than 200 locations across 24 states – did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment on Thursday.

A spokesperson, however, told WLOS that the company is cooperating with the investigation while the Weaverville location remains closed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of our team members in this time of loss. This is an unfortunate tragedy,” the statement added.
