The pint-sized killer is still on the lam after escaping from a Pennsylvania prison last month learning to evade authorities while hiding in the Brazilian wilderness – to avoid another rap killing.
Danelo Cavalcante, 34 – who famously climbed two walls of the Chester County Jail to escape on August 31 – spent several weeks in 2017 hiding in rural fields and farms outside Figueirópolis, a small city in central Brazil.
The 5-foot-tall killer was on the run after allegedly gunning down a friend in a dispute over car payments.
“Once you get out, it’s just fields and bushes over here. It’s not hard to get lost,” Figueirópolis priest Kelton Meneses told the New York Times.
Cavalcante – who is behind bars in the US for fatally stabbing his girlfriend in 2021 – had moved with his mother and brother to the Brazilian community about a year before he was accused of murdering his friend over money.
Calvacante worked hard on the farm and earned a reputation as a hard worker — but also someone you didn’t want to cross, residents said.

Cavalcante previously eluded Brazilian authorities for another alleged murder, hiding in the countryside around Figueirópolis, a small town where he and his family live.G1 Globo
“He kept quiet, didn’t talk much,” said Evaldo Alves Feitosa. “He doesn’t look you in the eye.”
Carlos Humberto Jacob, a friend of Cavalcante’s victim, said, “He had this reputation that he kept a lot of guns at home.
“People say he has heavy weapons on the farm.”
The friend Cavalcante is accused of murdering in Brazil, Valter Júnior Moreira dos Reis, was a beloved member of the community.
Valter Júnior Moreira dos Reis was shot dead, allegedly, by Cavalcante, in 2017 in a dispute over the killer car.
Their friendship went south after Moreira reportedly damaged Cavalcante’s car while borrowing it, then failed to pay for the repairs, according to police.
The dispute escalated, and Cavalcante began threatening Moreira’s life.

“He kept saying, ‘I’m going to kill you, I’m going to kill you,'” Moreira’s sister told the Times.
One night in November 2017, Cavalcante allegedly confronted Moreira in the middle of town and shot him dead, killing him with six gunshots.

Cavalcante then disappeared into the farmlands among the remote rural towns of the area.
“When you’re used to the farm, you know how to hide. He spent a lot of time in the bushes,” long-time resident of Figueirópolis, Raimundo Campos dos Santos recalled about the search.
Cavalcante eventually traveled to the United States using a false identity, according to the Times.
In April 2021, Cavalcante was living in Pennsylvania when he stabbed his girlfriend, 33-year-old Deborah Brandao, to death while his son and daughter were present.
He took off again after the brutal murder, eventually being arrested in Virginia and locked up in the Chester County Jail.

“We always considered him as a risky person. We just really knew that he had a weapon,” Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said at a news conference Tuesday. “He’s killed two people before.”
Hundreds of armed police officers and SWAT teams have been scouring rural Pennsylvania in search of Cavalcante, who has been seen on home security footage having changed his appearance to a clean-shaven face.
