Members of two families punched, kicked, and slammed into each other outside a Mississippi courthouse as they argued over the mysterious disappearance of a woman over the summer.
The family of Derrick Coleman and his wife, Latasha Crump Coleman, are at the Hinds County Courthouse in Jackson, Miss. Thursday morning for a hearing for Derrick Coleman, who is believed to know where the missing Crump Coleman is.
Crump Coleman, 46, a prison corrections officer, was reported missing by his family on July 19, 2023 after he was last seen at the scene around 7:30pm local time in Jackson.
Derrick Coleman is appealing a 2022 conviction in which he was found to have violated a protective order not to have contact with his wife, according to WLBT.
As court adjourned, members of the two families gathered in the lobby, where words were exchanged before people began pushing and shoving each other and eventually punches were thrown.
Hinds County sheriff’s deputies and court officials broke up the fight, but as the two groups spilled outside, a woman could be seen kicking a man, leading to another melee, video outside the courthouse recorded.

The unidentified woman’s incitement led to another punch being thrown and an enforcement officer holding a man down the stairs.
The entire fight was captured on camera, as local news crews covered the proceedings inside the courthouse, along with an unrelated press conference outside.
Following the fight, a minor was left with a bloody nose and several adults were arrested.
“Deputies arrested five adults and all were charged with disorderly conduct and are being held at the Raymond Detention Center,” said Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.

During the hearing, Judge Johnnie McDaniels ruled Coleman violated the conditions of his bond, while rejecting the appeal, returning the case to municipal court.
Relatives of Latasha Crump Coleman may have started the fight because they likely didn’t understand McDaniels’ decision, believing it meant Derrick Coleman would be released from prison, court officials told WAPT.
Coleman has been in jail since October.

Crump Coleman’s family suspects foul play may have been a factor. They also believe her case was “swept under the rug” and did not receive national attention because her disappearance occurred days after the fraudulent disappearance of Carlee Russell in Alabama.
Russell gained national attention after he “disappeared” on July 13 after work, with friends and family claiming he pulled his car over to help a child who was wandering on the side of the highway.
He reappeared on July 15 at his family’s home, but when detectives started asking Russell questions, his story quickly fell apart and he confessed to them all.

He was convicted of filing a false police report in October and faces up to a year in prison.
Although no arrests have been made in Crump Coleman’s disappearance, no suspects have been ruled out and Coleman’s name is “high on the radar,” Jackson Police Chief Joe Wade told the outlet.
