The family of a Mississippi woman arrested for child abuse after taking her toddler shopping at Walmart in only a diaper during freezing temperatures says she was a good mother.
Kambria Gabrielle Darby, 26, was charged with child neglect after police were called to the store around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 17 and found the mother in the parking lot, according to WJTV.
Darby’s confrontation and rant inside the store went viral after the video was posted by a Walmart employee.
But Darby’s aunt, Marie Darby Pickens, 69, who lives in Jackson, Miss. where Kambria and many of her relatives live, said she has never seen evidence of Kambria being a bad mother.
He also said he does not use drugs.
“Everything I’ve seen with her and the kids has been positive,” Pickens, a retired social worker, told The Post. “I don’t condone what was done and it was right to report but we don’t know both sides of the story. Sometimes a child can be difficult because they don’t want to put their clothes on, or take them off and maybe he’s in a hurry to get some things.”

Pickens said Kambria took her three children to see their 92-year-old great-grandmother when she was dying and she “acted very appropriately and so did the children.”
“I’m not saying there’s an underlying mental health problem in his case, but you have to know his story. What he did shows poor judgment, of course, and it’s very unfortunate that one incident like this can ruin a life.”
Kambria’s mother, Lakiisha Darby, hung up on a Post reporter who heard the sounds of a small child in the background.
Lakiisha later sent a message: “The family hopes to return to their lives before this incident and will not be making any further comment.”

Some shoppers at the Byram, Miss., location. confronted Darby as he walked through the store, stopped in one of the freezer aisles and tossed a bag of frozen vegetables that hit the shivering child, the footage shows.
He was released on bond conditions ordered by Hinds County Juvenile Court, according to WLBT.
EMS crews were called to check on the child before Child Protective Services arrived.

The child was then released to an approved relative.
After she was released from prison, Darby took to social media and defended her actions and the way she raised her children.
“I have pictures of every meal I cook” as proof of her parenting fitness. transform this [sic] character hurts my heart,” he wrote in a 656-word Facebook post, seen by the Daily Mail.
Darby compared his treatment in Walmart last week to Jesus.
“They did Jesus the same way, he was disgusted too; he didn’t want to go through with it.”
