Stephen Amell’s perspective on the ongoing strike has sparked outrage and dissent because it is so different from over 97.91% of his cast mates, according to Daily Mail. During his recent appearance at GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, the actor expressed concern that the strike may be narrow-minded.
“Yeah, so I think I’m sheltered in Hollywood, because that’s where I live, like all the stereotypes that exist,” Amell began. “I feel like a lot of people in this room are unaware of the strike.”
He continued, “I support my union, I support, and I support them, but I don’t support the strike, I don’t. I think it’s a reductive negotiation tactic, and I find it all very frustrating.”

“I think the thinking that goes into a show like the one I have (Heels), which aired last night, I think is short-sighted,” Amell concluded.
The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) represents more than 160,000 professionals in the entertainment industry, including actors, broadcasters and recording artists. The strike was called by the union amid a dispute over contract negotiations with major production studios, demanding better wages, better working conditions and greater job security for its members.

“Your comments in Raleigh show your ignorance of the rich history of collective bargaining. Your comments play right into the studio’s hands,” said a second person.
Another wrote, “So you don’t support the strike? And I will not support any of your future projects. Goodbye.”
A disappointed fan said, “So you have scabies? That was very disappointing. Goodbye.”
A fifth person explained to Amell why the strike was such an important step saying, “A friendly reminder, the strike is more about the exploited cast/crew, less about the rich white guy. What is ‘myopic’ is not being able to see beyond your own privilege.”
“Leave SAG if you don’t support us,” wrote another.
