With Season 27 of “The View” underway, fans got the shock of their lives after seeing veteran panelist Whoopi Goldberg not appear in the opening scene of the promotional video.

Per Sun, Goldberg recently had fans worried that he might be quitting “The View” after he was spotted missing from an early scene for a promotional video for the show’s next season.

In the promotional video, which was released on Wednesday, Goldberg’s co-hosts Joy Behar, 80, Sunny Hostin, 54, Ana Navarro, 51, Sara Haines, 45, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, 34, are seen giving different views on what fans should expect when season 27 debuts on September 5.

The five of them gave three words each to describe the performance. Behar called it “wild, powerful and dangerous,” while Hostin described it as “electric, fearless and fun.” Others also made statements that seemed to imply that fans were excited.

Just as the video was about to end, Ana quipped, “Where’s Whoopi?” in which the “Sister’s Act” star suddenly appears in front of the camera and says, “I’m here.”

He added, “We will see everyone next season. Keep talking!” then goes off camera to where he might have been before his appearance.

After a promo for the video was shared on Navarro’s Instagram page, followers of the show responded in the comments section that Goldberg’s initial absence had them fearing she would end her run on the show.

One fan said, “Alright now, Whoopi girl, don’t play like that, while another commented, “Don’t scare me like that!”

Another fan said, “I get depressed when I don’t see Whoopi. Bring on next season, ladies.”

Aside from fans worrying about what appeared to be a prank the show’s producers made, the mood was generally one of anticipation for the new season.

A fourth follower commented, “Can’t wait to meet you ladies. Good luck in the new season. Love you girl.”

Another said, “There is so much going on NOW! Can not wait.”

Fans Think SAG Strike Hurts ‘View’

Previously, fans were also worried that the host of “The View” might take a break from the show because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike that has shut down film projects big and small in Hollywood for weeks.

About 160,000 individuals registered under the association as actors, radio artists or media professionals have been striking, demanding better pay and working conditions from Hollywood production companies.

Big names like George Clooney, Dwayne Johnson, Mandy Moore, Shonda Rhimes, and Steven Spielberg have all voiced their support for the strike.

Several discussions have been held between the two parties, but these discussions have yet to produce the desired results that would lead to the aggrieved members of the association calling off the strike.

Fans’ fears of the show going on during the strike turned out to be unfounded, as seen in a live explanation from Goldberg.

In the broadcast, Goldberg revealed that “The View” and other similar shows do not operate under the same contract as SAG-AFTRA.

He revealed, per Sun, “Like soaps, soap operas, game shows and new shows, we work under a different type of contract, called a Network Code, which means we’re allowed to continue.”

The veteran actor added, “Since we are not actors at the table, acting [on] The View, it’s a different kind of contract.”

Goldberg also stated that being under a different contract allows them to still work as before. However, he insisted that he supported the strike and shared his hope that it “all worked out[s] out for everyone.”
