Horror convention organizers are excited to have Spacey, but their regular attendees would rather skip than be in the same room as the disgraced entertainer.

The Mad Monster Party Film Festival is a three-day event that brings celebrities and vendors of the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres together with their fans. This year’s convention is scheduled to be held from February 16 to 18 with stars as diverse as Spacey.

Showrunners confirmed the “House Of Cards” star’s presence on Instagram, raving about her accomplishments and saying she would attend all three days of the event. They also shared a video of him voicing similar sentiments about the impending scam.
Spacey declared he “can’t wait” for his first appearance at the event before thanking his fans for their unwavering support and imploring them to join him at the horror event in North Carolina. “I just want to take a moment and thank all my fans for your support over the years. It means a lot to me,” said the “House of Cards” star.
The video generated less than 500 likes, while the comment section was turned off. Despite the contestants’ attempts to stop the backlash, disgruntled fans aired their grievances on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Many slammed the organizers of Mad Monster for accepting alleged sexual predators and declared they would boycott the show.
“MAD MONSTER knew what they were doing by giving Kevin Spacey a platform. They want controversy because it brings in a free press,” user X theorizes. “They’re really marketing it as a ‘first convention appearance,’ which is gross on many levels.”
“You need to be strapped for cash or threatened to book Kevin Spacey on your show,” echoed another, while a third drew attention to a poster announcing the actor’s participation. Spacey’s hands are covered in blood on the digital flyer, a bad choice for fans, who wrote:
“The Carolina Convention hosted Kevin Spacey as a guest. Bad choice to use a promotional photo of him with blood on his hands, all things considered.”
More X users criticized the horror cheat’s choice, with one lamenting how their fond memories with Mad Monster were officially destroyed. “Mad Monster means a lot to me. I told my cancer patients the story of how Elvira helped me during chemo,” the individual wrote, referring to the iconic fictional character of actress Cassandra Peterson.

“It was a scam that I never missed. Their decision to bring in Kevin Spacey, delete all objectionable comments and block those seeking refunds breaks my heart. So long,” the grieving fan concluded. Another voiced similar sentiments about the organizers’ unfair antics, writing:
“The wonders at @MadMonsterMag have booked Kevin Spacey at their next convention, and when people start expressing their utter disgust, they turn off comments, block people, and delete anything negative. But you can still leave a ? on their FB post.”

One user X claimed the event was a setup, stating: “#KevinSpacey. Hmm, looks like someone is running out of money…And I think Kevin Spacey showing up at something called the Mad Monster Party is a little too much for him…How many attendees is he going to grope there?”
Meanwhile, one theorist joked that fans could physically avoid Spacey at an upcoming con by paying an extra fee. “If you want a picture with Kevin Spacey without him touching you, it’s an extra $50,” the social media user tweeted.

Last October, Spacey made an unexpected return to the limelight with a spectacular Shakespeare performance at a theater in Oxford. The show marked his first public appearance since the sexual misconduct scandal.
The 64-year-old delivered a scene from Timon of Athens during a lecture at the Sheldonian theatre, held in memory of the late conservative philosopher Roger Scruton. Her performance received a standing ovation, a surprising reaction given the significant backlash she received following the allegations.

The scandal began in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexually assaulting him when he was just 14 years old. The alleged victim filed for $40 million in damages, but Spacey was found not liable in 2022.
However, the case grew bigger as more alleged victims came forward and accused the veteran actor of inappropriate sexual behavior. This legal drama ended in July 2023 when he was acquitted of all wrongdoing after more than 12 hours of deliberation by a jury.
