Luxury luxury fashion brand Balenciaga has gained quite a bit of notoriety following accusations about their latest ad campaign that allegedly promotes child abuse and BDSM.
The Christmas campaign features child models posing in bondage and holding lewd teddy bears for the fashion line’s reported BDSM-themed shoot. While many people around the world have expressed disgust at the fashion house for the campaign, the father of one of the child models doesn’t seem to share the same opinion as he defends Balenciaga.
Balenciaga’s Child Model’s Father Says Campaign Shots Were Taken Out of Context
A British child model who posed for Balenciaga is reportedly having fun working with the brand, according to her father’s candid words to the outlet. The model’s father, who has not been identified, revealed that he was present at the shoot, which he called a “fun day” while insisting that the campaign photos were taken “completely out of context.” He said:
“No parent actively encouraged the child to participate in anything pornographic, and I think the publicity surrounding what happened was blown out of all proportion.”
It is important to note that the soft bear used in the campaign is almost nude and wears a sadistic and masochistic style strap with chains and studs, promoting Balenciaga’s ‘luxury bear’ handbag collection. This has also sparked calls for a boycott on social media; however, the designer has issued a full apology for the campaign, declaring that it “strongly” condemns every form of child abuse.
Meanwhile, Balenciaga photographer Gabriele Galimberti has faced a barrage of attacks online, but the father of one of the child models insists that Galimberti is “innocent” of any wrongdoing. He also mentioned that all the models featured in the campaign are the children of Spanish fashion house employees who were on the shoot and have approved the campaign.
The father felt “very sorry” for the photographer as he believed he was only doing his job by taking pictures for Balenciaga. He also argued that the shooting had nothing to do with Galimberti.

While insisting that the parents all knew what happened during the shoot, the anonymous father insisted that Galimberti was a “successful” photographer who did not deserve all the backlash he received. He further said:
“[Galimberti] innocent and has been involved in all this unfairly. It was a really fun day, but now it’s all ruined because people have taken it all out of context and created an international media storm.”
“If I felt at any time it wasn’t appropriate,” she continued, “I would have stepped in, and I’m sure other parents would have done the same, but nobody did.” However, the campaign images, which resulted from a day-long shoot in Paris in early November, have now been deleted from the brand’s website and social media platforms.
Given the scandal surrounding the company, several A-listers associated with the brand have come under fire. One of those icons is Kim Kardashian, who has openly discussed the matter on social media.
He took to Twitter to explain his reasons for not immediately speaking out against Balenciaga’s controversial campaign. The socialite admitted to being shocked by the image and wanted the chance to speak to the design team to understand what could have happened.
She went on to admit that as a mother, she was “shocked by the disturbing image” but appreciated the company’s “removal of the campaign” and their apology. As for his future with Balenciaga, it remains uncertain as he is “re-evaluating” his relationship with them.
Bella Hadid Deletes Balenciaga Campaign Post Amid Child Porn Scandal

While Balenciaga made headlines for severing ties with Kanye West following his anti-Semitic remarks and now the child pornography scandal, several celebrities are trying to distance themselves from the brand.
The Blast reports that supermodel Bella Hadid is among the crowd as she recently released photos of herself modeling for the designer, including the latest campaign for the Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
The collection was first introduced during Paris Fashion Week, and the now-deleted photo featured two young people holding bears and dressed in possibly fetish clothing. Fans were unfazed by Hadid’s partnership with the fashion line as they responded with scathing comments, making sure to include #cancelbalenciaga.
According to Page Six, a social media user advised Hadid to address the “unethical aspect” of Balenciaga’s recent campaign to avoid being associated with the brand. However, he has yet to issue any statement.
