The heartbroken father of an 11-year-old boy shot to death over the weekend in Cincinnati is questioning, “How many people have to bury their children” — as the city’s mayor recognizes that ongoing gun violence “is a reality that children -this kid needs to live through.”
Isaac Davis, the grieving father of the slain boy, became emotional as he spoke of how his son was killed and four other children injured when a gunman opened fire from a car into a crowd in the suburb’s West End Friday.
“How many people have to bury their children, their babies, their loved ones?” Davis asked during a press conference Sunday.
He said he and his family are “pleasing” anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge echoed Davis’ sentiments, telling the shooter: “Turn yourself in, call your loved ones, ask them to turn you in because if you don’t, we’re going to find you and we’re going to bring you to justice.”
Officials did not share any possible motive behind the shooting or a description of the suspect or suspects involved.

When police arrived at the scene on Friday they found six injured victims. Three were taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital while two were taken to UC Medical Center.
Davis’ son, who has not been publicly named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Theetge said the other victims were a 12-year-old, a 13-year-old, two 15-year-olds and a 53-year-old woman.
The identities of the victims have not been released by city officials, although family members were present during Sunday’s press briefing.

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval also spoke about the tragic shooting during the press conference.
“Twenty-two shots were fired. Twenty-two rounds in an instant, becoming a group of children. No time to react, no time to react,” said the mayor,
“That’s the reality these kids have to go through, and the reality and the trauma they’re going to have to deal with for the rest of their lives.”
