FBI, DHS warn of possible ‘lone actor violence’ over holidays due to Israel-Hamas war tensions

The FBI and Homeland Security are sounding the alarm about possible “lone actor terrorism” that could target holiday-related gatherings and other events due to tensions from the Israel-Hamas war.

The federal agency, along with the National Counterterrorism Center, issued a public service announcement Tuesday about the growing threat of terrorism this winter after issuing a previous warning in October.

While the warning was not in response to a specific plot on the feds’ radar, “various foreign terrorist media organizations have called for single-actor attacks in the US,” the agency said.

Holidays, New Year’s Eve events, as well as public protests, “remain attractive” to those looking to wreak havoc, the FBI and DHS said.

“Such gatherings can be easy targets for those inspired to commit violence against Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Arab communities,” the memo said. “Hate criminals also play a role in terrorism and the threat of terrorism.”

The US has been hit by a “surge” in hate crimes and other violence since the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attack that killed 1,200 Israelis, and led the Jewish state to launch a military campaign in Gaza, the agency said.

Hoax bomb threats and active shooters have also increased against synagogues, the feds said.

“Calls for violence may increase in the days leading up to the holidays and before other important events this winter,” the announcement said. “Factors that could exacerbate the threat of terrorism include an increase in the conflict between Israel and HAMAS and significant examples of violence in the Homeland that inspire copycat or counterattacks.

“Therefore, we urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any threats of terrorism or suspicious activity to law enforcement.”
