Senator, heal yourself.
John Fetterman (D-Pa.) fired up on social media Wednesday night after telling CBS’ Stephen Colbert that Americans don’t elect their smartest or most talented people to Congress.
“Sometimes you really don’t believe like, these people make the decisions that determine the government here. It’s actually scary,” Fetterman told “The Late Show” host.
“Americans don’t send their bet and the brightest, you know, to Washington, DC,” he added.
In classic Fetterman fashion, the burly Democrat wore a baggy hoody and oversized black shorts as he lounged next to Colbert’s desk.
Fetterman’s comments were picked up by the RNC Research account on X, formerly Twitter, which noted that the senator had made a statement “completely unironic.”

“Fetterman is telling the truth. He didn’t realize it, but he embodied the truth he spoke. This could be a skit on SNL. But it was a rare funny moment on Colbert,” said former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

“Dude, they’re laughing at you, not WITH you. Sad!” conservative radio host Larry O’Connor glared.

“Just wait until John Fetterman hears about John Fetterman,” tweeted Alex Lorusso, executive producer of “The Benny Show.”
“For once in his life, John Fetterman was right. But does he realize that including himself is the question,” said conservative pundit Benny Johnson.

“Yes. Fetterman — a man who outlived his parents into their 40s and never held a real-world job in his life — actually said that,” added media critic Joe Concha.

“John Fetterman tells us what we already know, America isn’t sending their best and brightest,” quips author Jebra Faushay.

“It’s ironic, but also not wrong,” said influencer Ian Miles Cheong.

During an exchange with Colbert, Fetterman recounted the race to avoid a partial government shutdown late last month.
He said the Senate had to unanimously agree to take the six-week step or there would be a higher risk of the government’s lights going out.
“That’s how dangerous it is to put that kind of power in one person’s hands, because you have some kind of less talented people out there who are willing to shut down the government just [to] got points over Fox,” Fetterman said.

The 54-year-old Democrat is also battling a House GOP speaker battle that has paralyzed the lower chamber for more than a week and a half.
“Well, it’s a low bar, really,” Fetterman quipped when asked if the Senate feels good it’s “not the most dysfunctional part of government.”
“I just want everyone to realize how dysfunctional it really is,” Fetterman continued. “And I always tell people, don’t worry, please don’t worry. It’s a lot worse than you think.”

Recently, a bipartisan crew of senators united against Fetterman and changed the dress code that allowed him to enter the Senate chamber without a coat and tie.
“I never asked for it,” Fetterman explained of the change. “But I was really surprised by the ‘Oh my God, the world is going to burn because he’s going to wear a hoodie on the floor.'”
Colbert then presented him with a tuxedo-embellished graphic T-shirt so that the Pennsylvania giant would look fancy while dressed casually.
