First lady Jill Biden gripes that Republicans are ‘cruel’ to stepson Hunter

First lady Jill Biden said Thursday that congressional Republicans have been “cruel” to her stepson Hunter, a day after two House panels voted to bring contempt charges against the president’s offspring.

“How are you personally coping with the onslaught of accusations against your husband and your family, including and especially Hunter?” MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski asked the first lady in an interview on “Morning Joe.”

Brzezinski added that GOP lawmakers are “obsessed” with the first child after Hunter evaded a subpoena on Dec. 13 to appear for a closed-door deposition with the House Oversight Committee about his overseas business dealings.

The cable news host also referenced the decision of Rep. Right-wing Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to display what Brzezinski described as “pictures of himself during vulnerable moments in his battle with addiction” in Wednesday’s hearing before the Oversight panel. voted to hold Hunter in contempt of Congress.

“This would destroy any family,” Brzezinski emphasized.

“I think what they did to Hunter was cruel,” replied Jill Biden. “And I’m very proud of the way Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction. You know, I love my son and it happened — it hurt my grandson. And that’s what I’m really worried about, that it’s affecting their lives as well.”

The 53-year-old appeared with his so-called “sugar brother” Kevin Morris, a famous Hollywood lawyer, and his personal lawyer Abbe Lowell, who is representing the first son against two federal indictments for firearms and tax crimes.

In court filings and op-eds, Hunter and his legal team have described both the congressional investigation into his conduct and the criminal charges against him as motivated by his years-long struggle with alcohol and drug addiction.

The full House is expected to vote within days after referring Hunter’s contempt charges to his father’s Justice Department.

Devon Archer, the eldest son’s former business partner, told the Oversight Committee last year that then-Vice President Joe Biden spoke on the phone, met and had dinner with foreigners who did business with Hunter.

An FBI whistleblower file released by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) last year also showed that the owner of Burisma Holdings claimed to have paid $10 million to Joe and Hunter Biden to drop an investigation into his natural gas company.

Prostitution evidence Hunter found on his abandoned laptop and in Treasury Department records also tied the second son to human trafficking rings in Russia and Ukraine, according to Greene and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC).

Two IRS whistleblowers also alleged that a five-year federal investigation into the first child’s potentially illicit financial activities was botched by the Justice Department, resulting in a plea deal only on probation.

The deal fell apart last year in Wilmington, Del., federal court after Hunter’s defense team refused to sign a deal that would have allowed the first child to be prosecuted for alleged crimes that occurred before his father took office.

He will appear in court Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles for tax fraud after missing payments and instead spending on “drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothes” and other items.
