Nicks wrote the notes, longhand and in her signature cursive handwriting. Nicks, 74, wrote, “A few hours ago I was told that my best friend in the world since the first day of 1975, has passed away. I didn’t know he was sick… until late Saturday night. I want to be in London; I wanted to go to London- but we were told to wait. So, since Saturday, a song has been going round and round in my head, over and over. I thought I might be able to sing it for him, so, I’m singing it for him now. I always knew I would need these words one day…”

The words Nicks is referring to are lyrics from HAIM’s 2020 song “Hallelujah.” The group would comment on Nicks’ Instagram tribute, writing, “rip beautiful songbird we love u stevie,” with a heart emoji.

Michelle Branch also offered her condolences on Nicks’ post.

“This is the day that my sweet Friend Christine McVie has flown away.. and left us earthlings to listen with bated breath to the sound of the “songbird” reminding someone and all the love that is around us to reach out and touch in this precious life that is bestowed upon us. A part of my heart has flown away today. I will miss everything about you, Christine McVie. Memories abound.. they flew at me,” Fleetwood’s tribute concluded.
