Florida driver accused of ‘intentionally’ doing burnouts on LGBTQ pride crosswalk mural

A Florida man is accused of intentionally driving multiple tires at an intersection painted LGBTQ pride with his truck earlier this month before he surrendered after a week-long manhunt.

Dylan Brewer, 19, was caught on surveillance video in his lifted pickup truck, with LED underbody lights and a flag attached to the back, starting his engine and making a hard left turn at the intersection of NE 2nd Avenue in Delray Beach on Feb. 4.

As the truck peeled away from the area, two curled tire marks were left behind as the smoke produced by the spinning wheels dissipated into the air, according to video released by Delray Beach Police.

“Witnesses reported that Brewer was observed intentionally performing multiple fatigues with his vehicle on the LGBTQ pride crosswalk,” the Delray Beach Police Department said in a statement Monday.

“The reckless act caused extensive damage to the streetscape painting, which serves as a symbol of unity and inclusion for the LGBTQ community.”

The Palm Beach County Council on Human Rights (PBCHRC) said the vandalism should be considered a hate crime, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

A Delray Beach intersection mural was targeted in a similar action the day after it was unveiled in June 2021.

Alexander Jerich was part of the birthday “President (Donald) Trump’s Birthday Rally” when he used his pickup truck to burn tire marks into the new mural.

He was originally arrested and charged with criminal mischief, reckless driving, and prejudicing evidence, but the latter charge was dropped and he recently completed his probation, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

In 2022, a similar rainbow design pedestrian in Atlanta was twice sprayed with swastikas.

During the height of the Black Lives Matter protests, the “BLM” mural painted outside Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan was vandalized several times including by a black woman who live-streamed it herself in July 2020.
