A Florida man has been charged with child abuse after allegedly cutting off his 2-year-old brother’s genitalia in a failed circumcision attempt while caring for the boy.
Timothoes Powell, 29, was arrested last month after the child’s mother, Powell’s cousin, took the child to the hospital with a cut on his genitals, according to police and local reports.
Powell had been caring for the boy while his mother worked in Daytona Beach on Oct. 17 when the alleged abuse occurred.
He called the child’s mother at about 7 p.m. to tell her that the child was “bleeding from his penile area because glass had entered his diaper,” according to a Holly Hill police report obtained by Fox 35 Orlando.
The family then took the boy to the hospital, where his skin had to be taped to repair the injury, according to the report. Hospital staff flagged the child’s wounds as suspicious and reported them to the police out of concern that he may have been abused, the local station reported.
Investigators spoke with the family and learned the child was in Powell’s care when he was injured. Police questioned the man who again claimed that “there must have been a piece of glass in his diaper,” according to the report.
Powell also told police “he may have pulled out [the boy’s] penis down too hard” and wiped it “very hard.” She said she “accidentally cut” the child.

But a senior nurse from the Child Protection Team said the child’s wounds were “too clean and precise to be accidental in any way,” and were done with intent.
He added that the injuries looked like “they might have tried to circumcise” the child, according to the police report.
Investigators said Powell’s statement about how the child was cut did not add up to his wounds and recovered surveillance footage showing his behavior toward the child.
The video, captured by a home security camera inside the home, shows Powell changing the boy’s diaper and walking away with an unknown object in his hand, while the baby screams and cries, according to Fox25.

Powell also appeared “frustrated” while diapering the boy in another video.
He allegedly yelled at the boy — threatened to put soap in his mouth if he didn’t shut up and doused him with a water bottle, according to the police report.
