A Florida man charged with brutally shooting a pastor and his new wife to death a week after their wedding finalized his divorce from the victim last month, police said.
Kerlande Williams and his wife, nurse Marcelline Racine, were installing surveillance cameras in front of their home in a quiet West Palm Beach neighborhood when Sony Josaphat arrived and allegedly shot them both dead.
The newlyweds had previously divorced Josaphat on November 22, according to WPTV.
Described by Racine’s devastated relatives as “controlling,” Josaphat told the arresting officer he had “disrespected” her and ignored her phone calls, the outlet reported.
Josaphat left the couple’s body on the sidewalk in front of their house before fleeing on Saturday morning. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Racine’s three children were in the residence at the time and his grown daughter allegedly witnessed the double murder.
Witnesses told detectives they saw Josaphat park across the street from the victim, walk through their yard and briefly say hello before pulling out a gun and opening fire.

Jehoshaphat had arrived at the house with his grown daughter.
He was immediately identified as a suspect in the case and surrendered to the police shortly after the violence.
Josaphat, who now faces two counts of first-degree murder, apparently confessed to the murder.
The spurned ex-husband told police he couldn’t sleep and was filled with rage after learning his ex-wife got married on December 2 — her birthday.
“Sony said he knew what he was doing was wrong and would never do anything like this,” according to a police report cited by WPTV.

The couple was setting up a camera at the time of the shooting and Racine was taking groceries from the trunk of his car.
It is unclear whether they took security measures to specifically guard Jehoshaphat.

Racine’s sister told local outlets her sister had been happy since her wedding day and was excited about the prospect of a new start with Williams, who serves as pastor at a local church.
“He was never as happy as he is now,” said the sister.
Josaphat is being held without bond and is expected to return to court on January 8.
