Florida man fatally stabs brother’s pal after nobody shared weed with him: sheriff

A Florida man was stabbed to death by his friend’s brother after the alleged killer didn’t have a chance to smoke weed, authorities said.

Joseph McDonald, 31, is charged with murder after a manhunt on Sunday led to his arrest, which was captured on dramatic body camera video.

Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home around 11 a.m. and found the 21-year-old victim, who was stumbling outside as he bled from a wound to his abdomen, authorities said.

The victim pointed to the house when asked who was behind the attack, but was unable to provide further information before he died at the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect fled the home following the stabbing, but a witness who was still at the home helped deputies identify McDonald as a person of interest, authorities said.

His photo was released to the public and a reverse 911 call went out to nearby residents, leading to the reported sighting.

A helicopter crew and police dogs assisted in the search before McDonald was spotted shortly after 1 p.m. emerging from brush three miles from the home, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies with their weapons trained on McDonald, Deltona, told him not to move because he was bleeding from his bandaged hand, according to footage released by the sheriff.

“Put your hands on your f-king head, do you f-king understand me,” yelled a deputy as McDonald tried to speak to law enforcement. Footage taken from one of the helicopters showed several deputies placing the man in handcuffs.

He was charged with first degree murder.

Witnesses with the victim told investigators the couple went to their friend’s house to smoke marijuana, but he was not home. Instead, his friend’s brother, McDonald, let them in, the witness said, according to the sheriff’s office.

McDonald became enraged when he was not given a chance to light the fire and allegedly threatened to kill the victim, the witness said.

As the argument escalated, the witness went to the garage where he heard the victim and McDonald fighting inside the home, authorities said. Shortly after, the victim came out bleeding and begging for help.

McDonald had only lived in the home for two months and had been dealing with “significant mental illness” for several years, the sheriff’s office said.
