In a recent chat with People’s Magazine, Kody Brown opens up about life after losing three wives. She and more of the “Sister Wives” cast talked about how their ideas about plural marriage have changed in recent years.
Kody was once “spiritually married” to multiple women where they performed all the duties of marriage without the legal aspect. His wives are Christine, Janelle, Robyn, and Meri. Today, Robyn is the only wife still with Kody, and she seems determined to finish their marriage.
Now that he’s monogamous, Kody says his plans for the future have changed. He said, “The idea of getting married again after what I’ve been through, there’s no reason for me to do that. I felt like I had hit the bottom of a deep pool, but I pushed through and headed for the surface.”
Kody Brown Still Supports Plural Marriage

During the interview, Kody talked about how polygamy is actually “really hard.” Despite insisting that he never wanted another wife, the reality TV star still supports polygamy and plural relationships.
Kody explains that when there is religious support for a way of life, people who follow it tend to “fight with God” and their spouse. He said this is actually a growth opportunity, but not everyone can handle it. Kody added, “So, I believe that plural marriage is about your growth, about self-development, about finding that goodness through adversity.”
Despite his support, Kody previously questioned his belief in polygamy on the TLC reality show. After his breakup with Christine, the 54-year-old said he began to have questions about why he entered a plural marriage.
He said it was “a strange thing to leave behind.” Kody added, “It made me question my beliefs, and especially question my religion. The message we had to the world about polygamy working doesn’t seem to be working right now.”
Their Plural Marriage Ideas Are Not Reality

Kody and his ex-wife explained to Many people that their happy idea of plural marriage is very different from their reality. They have to deal with constant jealousy and fighting between wives, their children feeling neglected in some way, and the legal backlash to their polyamorous situation.
Janelle says, “I went in with these ideas of what a beautiful plural marriage would be — but it was really hard. Meri and I fight about everything. Kody and I are amazing when it’s just us, but family dynamics are very difficult.”
The Browns have been together for a long time until Christine left her “spiritual marriage” to Kody in 2021. They had been in a relationship for over 25 years at that time. In December 2022, Janelle was the next to leave the family, and a month after that, Meri announced her official split from Kody.

Since their separation, Brown has had to adjust to having only one wife, Robyn, and significant distance from his children and ex-wife. After saying he left as he had hit rock bottom, the 54-year-old said he was now “heading to the surface” to get on with life.
Kody says he knows their breakup has left his family “very heartbroken” and admits his guilt about how badly he handled his emotions. He said, “We will not go back to where we were. And I want to get to the place where I accept it with a heart full of grace and love. We are all looking for happiness and we will all find it.”
Kody isn’t the only one moving on, his ex-wife is too, and they stay positive as they find themselves again. Meri told Many people his focus now is on “keeping the door open and saying yes.” Janelle said she has “no regrets” about her time with Kody because the experience “gave us the life we have now.”
