Florida mom admits to strangling 8-year-old son, running errands with body in car in ‘unimaginable’ scene: cops

A Florida mother admitted to strangling her 8-year-old son while he slept — then driving around running errands with his body in her car, according to police who called it “unthinkable.”

Shaneka Ann McKinzie, 36, was arrested after taking her daughter, Jaisyn Burgos, to a Miami hospital where she was pronounced dead late Tuesday, Miami-Dade Police said.

“The mother admitted to investigators that for the past two days she had been planning to kill her son,” police said in announcing the first-degree murder charge.

“He further described that while the child was sleeping in the back passenger seat of his vehicle, he used a tablecloth to suffocate and strangle him until he became unresponsive.

“He then continued driving in several parts of the district running errands with his son’s unconscious body in the vehicle,” the department said.

An autopsy confirmed the boy had been strangled. He had not been enrolled in school since his mother brought him to Miami from Missouri a year earlier, according to NBC Miami, which said the boy’s father had died several years earlier.

“It is very difficult to imagine how a parent could not only plan to kill their child but then after committing this murder go about their day as if nothing had happened,” Detective Andre Martin told the outlet.

“Driving around with their child’s lifeless body and completing various affairs as if nothing had happened. It is unimaginable.”
