Former ‘Selling Sunset’ Star Maya Vander Honors Stillborn Son’s Memory Through Beautiful Gesture

Maya Vander has turned her intimate pain into something beautiful!

The former “Selling Sunset” star opened up to her fans in sharing her grief over having to give birth to her stillborn son at 38 weeks. Vander, 43, opened up in an Instagram post last summer, detailing how coping with her pain has helped.

Vander and her husband had planned to name their son Mason.

The reality star detailed how women around the world have contacted her about her stillbirth experience and revealed how her busy schedule has become a “healthy distraction.”

Vander Candidly Discusses Her Preferred Coping Mechanism After Losing Her Son

Vander detailed his experience in the caption of an Instagram post.

“I’ve had women (who may have experienced something similar) ask me how I’m doing after stillbirth & pregnancy loss and how I can move forward in my daily life,” Vander wrote. “Everyone deals with loss in their own way, but for me, I find the key is to stay busy—a healthy distraction always keeps me going,” she continues.

“My advice is to go to work, socialize with people, move your body (endorphins), and talk to someone. I know the pain of loss will not heal overnight, but Today is a good day to start or continue the healing process,” Vander suggested. (via The Blast)

Grieving mothers commented on Vander’s post to share their stories and praised Vander for his ability to move forward.

“Losing a child is the worst thing,” one fan wrote. “But here I go on, living and grieving simultaneously. Our angels are watching over us. Hug you too,” they concluded.

“@themayavander, I don’t know how you do it,” another fan commented. “I lost my twin baby girls and couldn’t replace them; I have two beautiful children. So I’m done,” they shared.

“I had a stillborn baby last year,” wrote another follower. “The pain never goes away, but I know he cares for us in heaven. He will never be forgotten. Thank you for sharing your story [heart emoji].”

Earlier in April, Vander teamed up with Push Pregnancy for an Instagram Live segment where she opened up about her experience. Followers are also inspired by Vander’s courage and willingness to share his story with the public.

Vander Honors His Late Son By Donating Playground Trains To Florida Child Care Center!

A year and a half after Vander’s initial announcement about losing his son, he revealed how adorable his legacy is being honored!

Capturing a photo of her and her husband, Dave Miller, standing next to a train at the playground, Vander wrote, “Today was a very emotional morning! Our playground donation is complete and open for children. The playground will bring joy to many children.Our stillborn Masons will be in our hearts [s] forever! In every tragedy, we can try to find some light and learn to navigate through the difficult times. Thank you, Child Care Center, for allowing us to create a fun area for children!” Vander concluded.

“The powerful lady, you [sic] came across very genuine. Stay humble [heart eyes emoji],” one fan commented on Vander’s post.

Vander Says He ‘Never Imagined Being ‘Part Of The Stats’ In His Initial Announcement

After she announced her pregnancy in the fifth season of “Selling Sunset,” Vander later announced the loss of her son in an Instagram story in December 2021.

“I’ve always heard that but never thought I’d be part of the statistics,” Vander announced. “Instead of giving birth to a baby, I can go home with a memory box. I don’t wish this on anyone. A regular check-up turned into a nightmare that I never imagined would happen to me,” he continued. (via People, per The Blast)

On December 10, Vander reiterated his announcement with a post on his Instagram feed. In addition to the beginning above, she added, “Since I shared my pregnancy on the show, I knew I had to post about this and avoid the ‘when is your due date question. You will always be in our hearts, dear Mason,” Vander concluded .

The sixth season of “Selling Sunset” will premiere next month on May 19.
