Former ‘View’ Cohosts Pay Tribute To The Late Barbara Walters

Many of the co-hosts of “The View” have taken to social media to pay their respects and honor Barbara Walters. The late anchor and news anchor made television history when she launched “The View” in 1997. It was the first talk show with a female cast that Walters served as co-host until her retirement in 2014. In addition to Walters, the talk show the roundtable had 23 co-hosts with other women, and many of them honored her after her death on Friday at the age of 93.

Many former co-hosts of “The View” have posted tributes in Walters’ honor. Rosie O’Donnell took to Instagram and TikTok to remember the late great news reporter. On Instagram, O’Donnell simply captioned her photo with Walters, “legend #ripbarbara”

O’Donnell shared some stories in a TikTok video. “So sad to hear about the death of Barbara Walters. Even 93, man, who wouldn’t take it? What a long and eventful, legendary life he had,” he began his video recalling Walters’ life. “Talking to every prominent world leader in memory, interviewing everyone who is anyone. And I was fortunate enough to be in his orbit for many years.”

He went on to talk about the Broadway show they saw together. “And every time we’d go backstage, I’d try to help him, you know, on the stairs backstage and he’d always hit my hand and tell me to leave him alone,” he continued. “He knows what he’s doing. I can tell you that.”

She ended the video by saying, “May she rest in peace and may everyone remember what barriers she broke for women. She really did. She was the first and will always be remembered.”

Many of O’Donnell’s TikTok followers took to the comments section to add their condolences and leave their memories of Walters. “What a beautiful compliment you said earlier. He is a pioneer, which speaks volumes about how strong he is. He opened many doors for women,” wrote one. Another added, “Wow this surprised me. I just woke up and heard this. Barbara was an inspiration growing up. When I was younger, I would pretend to be Barbara.”

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 45, co-host of “The View” from 2003 to 2013, also posted a tribute on Instagram. The video montage was captioned, “I love ❤️ you Barbara. GOD is in this story. I have a few words tonight- and will be ready to honor you tomorrow Dec 31st at 9am EST (10 central) on Fox and friends. It would be an honor to post about your love and legacy. ? #best story in heaven”

Jenny McCarthy, 50, who was on the show from 2013 to 2014, also took to Instagram to thank Walters for everything he’s done for her. “Your impact on me will never be forgotten,” she captioned it. “You will forever be an icon, in every sense of the word, and my dearest friend.”

One of McCarthy’s followers added his thoughts in the comments section of the post. “I thought of you immediately. I love watching you and Barbara on the View every day of the year you’ve been there and listening to you on the radio during the @jennymccarthyshow, you can tell the valuable lessons you’ve learned from Barbara (and Oprah) with your interesting interview style in a way you connect with the people you talk to & the great questions you always ask. Sending love to you & to everyone Barbara touched directly & directly. She broke the glass ceiling for all of us women.”

Meghan McCain, who joined the series after Walters’ retirement in 2017 and is there until 2021, also posted an Instagram tribute. Her caption included, “Creating The View is something I will always cherish. Rest in peace, you will forever be an icon.”
