Four people shot at Oklahoma high school football game as players and fans run for safety in chaotic video

Four people were shot at an Oklahoma high school football game as melee footage captured players and fans running for safety on Friday.

Shots were heard around 10:15 pm at Bill Jensen Field at Choctaw High School during an early season rivalry game between Choctaw and Del City, KOCO 5 reported.

Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall confirmed that four victims suffered gunshot wounds – one of whom was a student, he revealed during a news conference.

“I know a younger person, maybe a high school student, was treated,” Marshall said.

The victim suffered a thigh wound and has been released from the hospital, Marshall said.

The status of the remaining three victims is still unclear.

Police described the shooter as a “black male in a gray hoodie” but said they did not have any suspects in custody.

Three people have been detained for questioning, Marshall said.

A Del City Police officer discharged his weapon during the disturbance, Del City Police Chief Loyd Berger said during a news conference.

“I know one of our officers got involved and discharged his weapon,” Berger said. “As far as who or if he hit anything, I really don’t know.”

An off-duty police officer was providing security on the sidelines when the shooting erupted, Berger said.

At least 35 officers from various departments in the area responded when news of the shooting spread.

“A kind of panic came after the initial shot. Just a scary situation,” The Sports Animal reporter Mark Rodgers, who was at the game, told the outlet.

A video posted on Xformerly known as Twitter, from a live stream of the game provided by Skordle.TV showed the horrifying moment as Del City led Choctaw 35-25 when shots were fired in the third quarter.

Players and spectators crowded into the stands are then seen scrambling for cover in the clip.

“What’s going on,” said one of the broadcasters as players and officials on the field were seen running for cover.

“We’ve got people shooting,” the second announcer declared as the sound of gunfire became clear.

As those in attendance appeared to panic, the in-game announcer could be heard telling fans and players to “get down” in the stadium before the clip ended.

Choctaw High School is located 25 miles east of Oklahoma City.
