The popular game show “The Price Is Right” is famous for contestants guessing the prices of items to win cash and other prizes.
The showrunners recently received a class action complaint from their employees, alleging that the production violated several labor codes. Their grievances include failure to pay salaries and team members who are overworked without adequate rest and compensation.
‘The Price Is Right’ Viewers Accused Of Poor Working Conditions
In legal documents obtained by The Blast, Wallaine Sarao filed a lawsuit for herself and other workers in the same situation in California County Superior Court.
He released ten serious complaints against production companies Fremantle Television, Entertainment Partners Enterprise, and The Price Is Right Productions, Inc.
As noted, the class-action lawsuit accuses the game show’s head of production of violating several labor codes. The complaint alleges that the parties involved failed to pay their wages, including minimum wage and overtime.
Failure to create timely detailed wage statements, maintain accurate records, and pay timely wages during employment violates sections 226(a), 210, and 204 of each document. Excluding the withheld wages, the exhibitors were also accused of suffering from poor working conditions.
Sarao said production companies fail to provide their workers with meal and rest periods. They allegedly did not reimburse business expenses or pay sick leave, and they also violated business and professional codes.
It is not clear what the defendants are asking for in damages; however, he demanded a jury trial. The class-action lawsuit against the head of production of “The Price Is Right” comes after the game show’s installment in Chicago.
