“Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts traveled around the world to visit New Zealand on the “expedition of a lifetime”.
Earlier this week, Roberts took a helicopter ride to see a spectacular glacier in New Zealand firsthand, however, the glacier is quickly disappearing due to rising temperatures. While high in the sky, the morning talk show host saw for himself the shrinking ice.
“It looks like a waterfall but it’s ice falling off a cliff and crushing. So you can see it disappear before our eyes,” explained longtime glacier pilot Michael Clarke to Roberts.
Not only did Roberts get to see New Zealand’s natural beauty, but he also reached a new level when he jumped from the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere — Auckland’s SkyTower.

The “Good Morning America” host said he was “ready to live more and be less afraid” as he jumped 53 stories from Auckland’s SkyTower.
Yesterday, he teased the jump on his Instagram page, writing, “I made it to the edge of the #SkyTower in Auckland, NZ…the tallest building in the southern hemisphere…but did I really make the jump? You’ll have to watch tomorrow to find out! ?”
Spoiler alert… he jumps!
Roberts called the experience a “once-in-a-lifetime thrill” as he traveled 52 miles per hour jumping off the building. After that jump, he said he felt invincible.
“I really feel like I can do anything. Just like when you do this, you feel like there’s nothing you can’t do,” he said. “Being out there over 600 feet high. Looking out the wind. Beautiful.”
According to the ABC show, “more than 2.5 million people have jumped on the famous Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown, with AJ Hackett’s bungy company, which first opened in November 1998.”
Marc Perry, who works for AJ Hackett’s company Bungy, said, “It was originally two crazy Kiwis — AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch, AJ Hackett himself actually took himself to Paris, France. And in 1987, jumped from the top of the Eiffel Tower, spreading ‘bungy jumping exposure around the world, and what it means, and what it represents.”

As previously mentioned, Robin Roberts also went on a helicopter tour to get a bird’s eye view of New Zealand’s spectacular glaciers.
Unfortunately, glaciers are quickly disappearing due to rising temperatures. While high in the sky, the morning talk show host saw for himself the shrinking ice.
“It looks like a waterfall but it’s ice falling off a cliff and crushing. So you can see it disappear before our eyes,” explained glacier pilot Michael Clarke to Roberts while in the helicopter.
Local scientist and assistant professor, Brian Anderson, also spoke to “Good Morning America,” explaining that of the nearly 3,000 glaciers, “most of them [are] very small … but we have lost quickly. In fact, it’s getting faster.”
“New Zealand researchers predict that within a decade, many of the country’s important glaciers will disappear,” says Robin Roberts in his work. “That will affect the landscape, the water supply, and the people who depend on the glacier for their livelihood.”
