Golden Globes Showrunner Reportedly ‘Upset’ At Jerrod Carmichael ‘s Monologue

Golden Globes showrunner Helen Hoehne did not enjoy Jerrod Carmichael’s monologue at the awards ceremony.

The comedian hired to host the event has relentlessly criticized The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization responsible for planning the awards ceremony.

On a larger scale, Carmichael tore apart the controversy-tainted organization as a new organization in his monologue about previous claims that the organization has lacked diversity for years.

“I’ll tell you why I’m here: I’m here because I’m Black,” Carmichael joked during the show. He later dismissed the organization for reportedly not having a single black member until George Floyd died in 2020.

The comedian also pointed out a strange fact about the Golden Globes host — the Beverly Hilton — which is the same hotel where the late veteran singer Whitney Houston was found dead in her room in 2012.

After the show, Houston’s farm shared a statement via TMZ who said Carmichael’s comments rubbed the family the wrong way.

“Whitney Houston’s estate was upset with the joke and felt it was in bad taste,” a rep told the publication.

“Terrible. Hopefully next year we can get a funny host,” one Twitter said the user.

“Who is this man? He’s bad! No stage presence, and Whitney Houston’s jokes are not good,” said another fan.

On the other hand, some users enjoyed his monologue and took to social media platforms to sing his praises.

Who is Jerrod Carmichael?

Hate him or love him, Carmichael has been a big deal among comedy fans, and his recent Golden Globe hosting is sure to put him even further in the spotlight.

He rose to prominence through his eponymous show, “The Carmichael Show,” which ran for three seasons. He has received much acclaim for his stand-up comedy, most recently for his latest HBO special, “Rothaniel.”
