A group of tourists overturned a gondola in Venice after they were warned not to take selfies and stand on the boat.
The gondola passes under the bridge near St. Mark when it overturned, throwing its occupants into the cold water, the video was posted to the TikTok show.
The gondola rider had attempted a tricky maneuver to get under the bridge while tourists from China continued to move around the boat taking pictures of themselves and the city’s famous sights, the Guardian reported.
The gondolier had told the five passengers to sit still until they were under the bridge so as not to disturb the boat’s center of gravity.
Despite being warned, passengers continued to stand up and take more pictures, causing the boat to capsize.
In a video shared to social media, the tourists were seen clinging to the boat, shouting: “Oh my God,” as they desperately tried to pull themselves onto a nearby vessel.

The gondolier also plunged into the freezing water of the canal, helping the passengers safely board the rescue gondola.
They were then given “hospitality and warmth” inside the La Fenice theatre, the Guardian reported.
No injuries were reported.

The Venice Gondolier Association has reduced capacity on boats in 2020 — blaming overweight passengers — and increased the maximum capacity from six to five people on smaller boats and from 14 to 12 on larger boats.
